Thought as AvX is on the horizon it was time to have a reread of an event that will probably have some importance in AvX, house of M. A very nice looking book and I love the Ribic covers. My thoughts on rereading at that really not much happens in the 8 issues, the House of M world that is created is very similar idea to the construct world in the matrix, i think I would have liked to have seen more of this world in the main book, it was created and destroyed very quickly. And i guess at the time i never realized just how large of a dump Bendis had taken outside of the x-offices door, in a time in comics where we say things wont stick and wont matter in 6 months time, the x-office are still working there way through no more mutants.

Got my DCBS box this past Friday. Some highlights:
Batwoman: The second issue with Amy Reeder and it was awesome, they're really fleshing out her rogues gallery and the perspective jumping in the narrative is a fun experiment that I think is really working. The Reeder art is gorgeous, and I'm going to miss her on the alternating arcs. This issue has stuck with me all weekend, I keep thinking about the things that happened.
Conan the Barabarian: Conan is badass, Belit is sexy. Cloonan draws one hell of a full issue pirate battle. I can't wait to see what comes next.
Justice League International: Oh my god. Is anyone else reading this? This is one of the most human representations of super heroes I've ever seen. And I was completely unprepared. I'm not going to spoil anything but I was really impressed with this issue. Since the new 52 I've felt the JLI has been a decent but middle of the stack book. It hadn't impressed me as much as Generation Lost for sure, but I did really like this team and these characters. I can't see the book, or Booster being the same after this. Super impressive issue, I hope people didn't jump from the series before the shit hit the fan.

The Adventures of Luther Arkwright I am surprised that it seems that a gem like this has fallen through the cracks. Brian Talbot just going forward with no pause telling a pretty basic genre story at its core but where this book really shines as anyone who has read it can attest is in its experimentation with art styles, narration, there are so many comics I can now trace right back to this it is kinda ridiculous.

Great book. I have yet to meet an iteration of Jerry Cornelius that I don't like.

Berserk I had to do a catch up with this series and my god. Kentaro Miura is SO SO SO SO GOOD. I am not sure if Vince has read this or not but if you haven't Vince you really need to get on it. This series is one of the bloodiest good times in comics. Medieval brutality mixed with the machinations of gods, all focused on one of the most determined single minded main characters to ever appear in comics. There is a reason Johnny Ryan name drops this book as a major reference for Prison Pit.

You've got that right- amazing book. I spent an evening on the roof of a casino (the smoking area) at the Thought Bubble after-party (a UK convention in Leeds) and had the chance to chat with the man (Andy Diggle and Anthony Johnson were there at the same time, it was a weird night). We had all imbibed herculean quantities of ale and so we spent some considerable time telling him how awesome he/it was. The David Tenant voiced audiobook is worth hunting down too (Chris recommended it on AC I think).

I got a chance to read a few of these stories while at the dentist today. Pretty funny stuff. Goldilocks as a rogue biologist, Jack buying beans from a magic vegetarian…the list goes on and on. The best part is that when I went to commend them for having some of the best reading material in a waiting room ever, they told me that they were thinking about removing it because someone was offended by it. How ironic is that?

Finished the Wally Wood biography "Wally's World". It was O.K. Shocked by the amount of typos and grammatical errors I found though. Just picked this up today at House of Secrets in Burbank: and yes, that's a Bruce Timm cover.it's published by their own publishing company Art of Fiction: http://artoffiction.com/ArtOfFiction/books.html

Finally diving into some of the new 52 books.
Grifter 1-6 which I enjoyed. I was only vaguely familiar with him, but didn't feel like I was missing much.
Red Hood and the Outlaws 1-4 which I enjoyed also. I could have done without Starfire though. No knowledge of any of these characters but still enjoyed it. I plan on going back and reading what I can find of Red Hood and Arsenal.
Action Comics #1. I didn't care for this one. I felt like I was late to the movie and no clue what was going on or how much I might have missed. It definitely didn't feel friendly to a new series or DC reader.
Animal Man #1. It was ok. The art style really didn't grab me though. I will probably wait for the collected volume if my library gets it to read any more.
Deathstroke#1. It wasn't bad either. I may give a few more issues a shot. It seems like a book I should like, but I didn't walk away dying for the next one.

Novel wise: Heard from a lot of people that this book was basically a rip off of The Stand but I'm like almost halfway through and it's nothing like that. It's a great book. REALLY long but great. Non-fiction wise: Reading this for research on a story that I'm going to be writing. This is probably the best book I've read on Vietnam. Comics wise: Ever since I started reading Grant Morrison's Batman run I've become quite a Grant Morrison whore and I heard Doom Patrol is a great read so I'll be diving into this...NOW!

I've been meaning to pick this up for awhile now. This is a fantastic run, almost as good as Drake and Premiani's original.

I've been on an old school kick and rereading some classics, specifically The Avengers: The Korvac Saga and I started thinking about what Vince said a couple episodes ago about JLA: The Obsidian Age and how that is how an event should be played out. Felt the same way about The Korvac Saga-self contained and epic in scale.

Just read the Light Brigade by Tomasi and Snejbjerg from DC comics. This was a great miniseries. Wasn't sure what to expect, but it's definitely worth getting if you come across it.
