I downloaded In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin by Erik Larson to my Kindle today.  I'm 40 pages in and think I'm going to rip through this one.  I read The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America a few years ago and loved it.  Any other Larson fans out there?

Neal Adams Batman vol. 1 HC  A showcase of Neal Adams’ Batman work in all its glory for all to see.  The stories are still good but dated for the time in certain spots depending on the story.  If you can gloss over the different era of storytelling from Bob Haney then you can be rewarded w/ the unique artistic experience that I had.  4.5 stars out of 5 stars rating

I might be a pre-Larson fan. Wink I've been meaning to read The Devil in the White City for a while now and I'm really intrigued by In the Garden of Beasts. They both sound great. Please let us know what you think of the latter when you're done!

I just finished Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I picked up the recently released first issue of Dark Horse's similarly-named The Strange Case of Mr. Hyde and realized I'd never actually read the original book.

Stevenson's novel is good, although his Mr. Hyde is quite different from some subsequent interpretations.

The aforementioned comic, which is a sequel of sorts, was entertaining and I plan to stick with it. It wears it's influences on it's sleeve (and not just Stevenson) but I liked the art and the concept, which involves the title character as well as Spring-heeled Jack (ie: the Ripper), is right in my wheelhouse.

I'm also re-reading The Unwritten from the start. I'm on issue #13 right now. I think I've only read up to about #15 so I have a bunch of "new" issues ahead of me.

The latest Hellboy one-shot is great. The story is pretty simple but Mignola clearly decided to give Richard Corben a bunch of subjects he draws well and Corben came through: this is one of the best-looking comics I've read in a while!

Finally, I'm listening to Stephen King's It on audiobook, read by actor Steven Weber. So far, so good... I like it.

Just finished Vols. 1-3 this weekend. Gonna try and sit down and read Vol. 4 tonight. Great stuff.
I'll probably try and read Final Crisis again soon to keep the crazy train rollin!

The Question: Pipeline – Finally got to read the whole story since I was only following it in backups in Detective with Rucka was on the title. An enjoyable Question story made only better by the appearance of Huntress. Not quite as good of an ending as I was hoping for.

Taskmaster: Unthinkable – Now that's how you do a Marvel limited series. This was a lot of fun and action but there was also more than that. There's some complexity and emotion to the story as well. Loved the use of old Marvel groups and the introduction or new ones. Always enjoyed the concept and visual of Taskmaster so it was good to catch up with what he's been doing since Avengers: Initiative.

Meathaus Vol.7 : Love Songs – An interesting mix of creators in this anthology with more hits than misses.

I just read the first 5 issues of Peter David's legendary Hulk run, drawn by Todd McFarlane, and holy hell. David just hits the ground running. These books don't feel date AT ALL.

He's actually the reason I'm reading this, because I saw art of his that I loved (the bachelor party issue), and wanted to read this run to see it.

IMHO McFarlane wasn't quite at the height of his powers with Hulk because he didn't ink himself until #340 (which is arguably the most famous cover image of that era) and left Hulk two issues after. When he moved to ASM with #298 he didn't ink himself until #300, which coincidently is arguably the most well known comic of that era - it certainly has retained backissue appeal/price like few others could with a print run it had, and it's based on sheer popularity).

Read DMZ Vol. 10 last night, and it is always a great read. Also got around to Reading Strangers in Paradise Vol 1 Pocket Edition and enjoyed that as well. Terry Moore can do no wrong in my book.

I'd karma you to shit if I could. I totally agree with the bolded part. I was so fucking sad afterwards (but in a good way) and I really felt for the guy. But it wasn't a sad tale like (Silver Surfer: Requiem or something like it), there was a lot of fun and whackyness as well. It was a great origin story without actually being an origin story. WTF business to I have caring about the guy? But FVL made me care and I was cheering for him so hard during the final moments. If after issue 4 they decided to make it an ongoing I would've kept buying it until FVL left the book. I love this mini so much, I wish I could get more FVL Taskmaster tales.

Karma! 2 of my favorite books. Well, the last volume of DMZ I read (volume 6) left me a little cold, but I hope the next volume picks up for me.

Vol 6 is probably the one I thought was slow also, but it does pick up again.

I am almost done with SW Legacy Vol 3, and it's AMAZING. I can not believe how awesome this series is. When my 11 o'closkers ballet is filled out it's gonna be a hard choice between Q&C and SW Legacy for best old series I've finally read.
