Umbrella Academy: Dallas

UNF. Enjoyed this quite a bit, hope you do the same.

Skimming (and kinda wishing there was a b&w variant due to the gorgeous inks by Seņor Murph (not knocking Stewart's work, just that they kinda compete with the inks)):

Mega Man 1-8

Super fun, it's aimed at kids and fans of the games.  I loved the Mega Man games as a kid and this book is full of bombastic action and subtle, natural nods to the games.  I like the artist of the first arc a bit better but both are solid cartooning.  The pacing of the book is so fast, I don't know if that's indicative of 4 issue arcs or just the writing style in general.  I think i'm going to start jumping on the paper copies of issues (thank you comixology 99 cent sale on these).  Super excited about the next group of Robot Masters coming up.  If you played the Mega Man games on the NES do yourself a favor and check out this series.

After reading Brandon Graham's long term plans for Prophet and his mention of an artist Giannis Milonogiannis I decided to track down what he had done. That comic is Old City Blues and this book is awesome grit science fiction very much in the vein of your Ghost in the Shell or Appleseed with an art style that is manga like but not quite yet really enjoyable and it flows amazingly. http://milonogiannis.tumblr.com/

Really great comics looking forward to see what he does with Prophet.

Just finished Simon Green's The Bride Wore Black.

From the new to comic thread, just started DC's Identity Crisis which just came in from the library.

First DC book, and I am liking it. There is obviously a ton of the back story I am missing and most of the characters I am only vaguely familiar with if at all. Still it is an entertaining read.

A little over hyped in spots but overall I really enjoyed it.

It doesn't get any easier to read this. A fine read. Cool to see some different artists contributing as well.

I guess this one goes out to Vince since both things I happening to be reading are right up his alley...

Conspiracy on the Planet of the Apes (prose book from Archaia): Absolutely awesome book for Apes fans. Tells a story that sort of happened between scenes during the first Apes movie.

Creepy Archives Vol. 1: Just fantastic stuff. Fun, short and sweet stories with some of the best artists of the day. Really really enjoying it.

The Darkness Compendium

This book had the first 40 or so issues of the Darkness and a few spin offs and side stories.  I freaking loved it.  The art can be a little splash heavy at times, and the darklings humor is intentionally sophmoric but this series screams comic book fun to me.  Demons and gangsters, that's the premise.  I like the history with the Darkness, Witchblade, and Angelus and it makes me want to check out other books in the Top Cow universe.  There were some really great creators in this book and while some arcs stand out above the others everything added to the story and progressed naturally throughout.  The only thing that kind of bummed me out is huge events happen in the Darkness/Batman crossover that is not included in the book.  It's cool that a crossover has real, lasting reprucussions on a character, but I would've liked to have been able to read those issues in the big collection.

Astonishing X-Men (Whedon and Cassaday)
I wanted to give it a chance because it was a consistent team of writer/artist I enjoyed Firefly and Cassaday on Planetary.  This book was a colossal mess. To the point where I have no idea who it is aimed at. He is either referencing stuff in ways that doesn't make sense, misunderstanding the characters & content of the run before him bringing up plot lines that are subsequently dropped for no apparent reason. Combine that with the Joss Whedonism of picking a female character and then having them be the SUPERIOR TO THOU to the rest of the cast and turning everyone into unfunnny joke machines. So much frustrating, Breakworld was probably my favorite part outside a few lingering problems that plague bad science fiction the bullet idea still being kinda dumb.

 Huh?

I haven't seen too many comments against Astonishing and not in a very long time.  So there's that, I guess.

EDIT: And I'm not sure if you ever hit the old Bullpen Bulletins episodes, but avoid episodes 3A and 3B.  Or maybe give 'em a listen and see if it clears up any confusion.

I prefer "Well defined distinct taste Lad"  Wink

Also there are still bigger things out there which I have distaste for and have not had need to mention yet that would sooner get me called contrary...

Thinking i kinda agree. but not to the point of disliking the series as a whole. i thought it was more of a refresh or a soft reboot similar to want johns has down for a decade at dc. a pop refresh of a continuity strapped line.
