Meanie, it was GREAT to hear you leave a message, but you need to lay off the random Morrison "analysis" after drinking fire water all day. Hey, I speak the truth goddamnit! As handed to me on stone tablets by some magical, made up beardy guy... either god or alan moore, not sure. And yeah, that was after a day of reading any critisisms of RIP met with "Oh... well you obviously didnt understand it then" patronising bastards! I did understand it, I just hated the ending so much it blotted out all I did like about the series. I mean, the Joker in that story? Stunning! Helicopter go boom boom (dumbing it down so non morrison fans can understand) bad! And cheers guys, like to slur at you all every other month or so

On Fables- Wood, Vince, and Steve, I never heard you guys mention about 1,001 nights of snowfall. I was curious what you guys thought about it.
Check out The Geek Savants most recent podcast episode for their take on Fables. Spoilers abound, but those guys do give up some good talking points about the series so far.

The only thing I can say David, is if you want to read these books, I will send you mine to try...This series is something that I can't recommend enough and one of the ways that I have gotten many people into the comics of today...
If he declines, put my name on that list. I haven't read the series yet (time and money constraints), but I've heard nothing but great things about it.

As long as you're online Wood you mentioned you ordered 5 copies of the AV/Black Coat book. I very much support the book(s) and have ordered one copy but I can't even justify to myself buying an extra. Here's my thing though- I'd pay more to help support the title but I can't bring myself to have an extra copy of a comic floating around on top of my piles of existing crap- just not enough room. So what about this as a scenario (aside from just giving copies to other people)- what if smaller press comics went to a 'Radiohead' type of model but with a minimum buy-in? So you go to Steve's website and click on the 'store'. The Black Coat/AV special is in stock for a minimum purchase of $2 but you are given the option of 'How Much Would You Like To Pay?'. I want Steve to produce more works and have enjoyed his previous ones so I choose '$5'. I get mailed my one issue to read but I supported the publisher/creator with more money at no additional cost.
A random idea I know but being the finance man I thought I'd get your opinion on it.
First of all, thank you very much! And I totally understand where you're coming from. What you're suggesting reminded me of an article I read earlier this year: http://www.kk.org/thetechnium/archives/2008/03/1000_true_fans.phpThere are lots of problems with it, and it's in no way a sustainable model (google 1,000 true fans and you can read some of the flaws/rebuttals), but what you're suggesting is interesting. I dunno. It may be something that I can test drive after I have copies of the book in hand.

RE: Cyclops vs. Prof X I haven't read the MESSIAH COMPLEX since it was coming out, so I'm sure the decimation of the mutant population played a part in Scott replacing Chuck at the head of the X-Men table, but I seem to remember that there have been a number of TRUST issues that exacerbated the situation and really deteriorated the relationship between the two men. One example being Chuck's secret that there was another X-Men team that included an unknown Summer brother (Vulcan) and they were sent to die. Another rather large one being that the Danger Room was actually sentient and Chuck kept it suppressed "for the greater good" so that the X-Men could train. So it was even before Havok's team leaves for space that ol' Chuck found himself on the outside looking in, team wise. I don't believe that the "Xavier Dream" has necessarily been discarded by the Cyclops run X-Teams, but it certainly seems to be a tenuous amalgamation of Xavier's and Magneto's conflicting dogmas. And yes, Chuck is also a jerk at times.

Steve -- Looking forward to the book and I love it when comic creators get a chance to geek out over other comic creators.

Anyone keep tally on how many shows in a row that Vince praises a Marvel book? Just curious. The thing that I really enjoyed about Carey's X-MEN series and the Yost & Kyle NEW X-MEN books is that it was seemingly written for people who read and enjoyed the mutant books of the '80s and early '90s -- there's so many homages, references and returning characters/storylines that each series offered a nostalgic and yet fresh take on that era.

Man, what is it about Grant Morrison stories that if you say you liked it, people feel compelled to carefully explain to you why it's not as good as you thought it was?

Touche.
I guess I'm more forgiving of the other way around, though, because I appreciate enthusiasm and positivity when talking about comics. I'd much rather someone try to sell me on why something's fantastic when I wasn't that into it than think something is fantastic and have someone try to sell me on why it's shit.

Karma! It takes a lot more effort but it's more rewarding to talk good things about comics cause it's always easy to crap and bitch about things. And careful on the words, "sell me on...", Chris sounds like he's ready to club anyone using that phrase lol.

As I've begun listening, I have to say Vince--I now understand how you've been analogized as the Art Bell of comics as you give me "18." And Wood!! You betta WORK it, brutha! You brung the numerology HEAT. It's just funny that Master Bryant was surprised that Wood was insightful. Somebody hasn't been listening from episode numero uno ... All this said, I swear, I never wanted to work this hard to read my comics. I mean, yeah, I want good stories to make me think, but DAMN. I am SERIOUSLY thankful that you guys take this on. Oh, and I have to say--between the time I was reading this post, and the time I posted, this is what it said; Warning - while you were reading 17 new replies have been posted. The best part was when Chris joined in and started dropping venom.

I actually understood Bluemeanie clear as a bell. And Mrs. Meanie--of whom I swear I am so in love with it's just sick.
I understand Rich (Bluemeanie)'s protest about Morrison-defenders. But as much as I love ya, Welshie, you know you can't paint everyone who enjoys Morrison with that brush. VinceB being the chiefest. What he and Wood says is happening in Final Crisis was backed up by Steve Bryant's recognitions from Kamandi. Bryant hasn't read any of FC (right?) and just knew Morrison's symbolism from the description of some of the characters. I'm not willing to do the work to get all this information, but I like that Vince is.
But Vince, can you verify that what Rich says (and others) does happen sometimes? Are there any Morrison stories that you think he wrote which wasn't really as deep as others have made it out to be?
Lastly, it's unfortunate that there are coonts out there that will be obnoxious with their defense of Morrison, but I've yet to hear them on any podcasts that I've listened to. My dear sweet lover of Mrs. Meanie, you know I love you like bacon, but I gotta say--I've only ever heard people be obnoxious when they attack Morrison-defenders. Maybe I'm not listening to enough podcasts. But I don't have enough time to even read a Morrison book with gusto, let alone listen to more podcasts than I do now.
Eh. Whatcha gunna do?
