What are you doing posting on a message board? Do I need to sign Matthew Guy up on this forum? Maybe now that Norton has reinvented himself...

I think I’ve heard all I can over comic pricing. All the arguments starting sounding the same, I just sort of start tuning it out after a while. Complements on mentioning the price of Thor God Sized with the page count. I remember Dark Horse tried that whole Escapist anthology that had a higher page count with a spine but with the higher price it didn’t seem to take.
All I know about the X-men right now is: Reading Messiah Complex in singles was just alright, I didn’t find anything special about it. The art was confusing in a few places too. Uncanny is really fun and enjoyable right now. Larry Stroman doesn’t fit this style of X-Factor and makes me lose some of my interest in the book.

Just like to credit Vince with karma for a Warren Zevon reference- my son's [aged 5] favourite song is Werewolves of London- now all I need to do is foist Dylan upon him I'm a 'Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner' guy myself! Thanks for the article Steve- I'll read it in depth when this rollercoaster of a weekend of mine gets done. Glad to hear some more Elementals love. It was my first indy along with TMNT (started that with issue #2!) and they both will always live deeply within my heart of some of the best comics ever. And of course for Elementals fans remember Willingham continued the shared universe in his adult title 'Ironwood'.

Nobody wrote mercenary songs like Warren. I'm partial to The Envoy and to Jungle Work. And Boom Boom Mancini.

I actually understood Bluemeanie clear as a bell. And Mrs. Meanie--of whom I swear I am so in love with it's just sick. Well yeah, thats coz you've had me slur at you in real life as well mate And yeah, she is a bit fucking adorable isnt she? I woulda let her join in more, but she never lets me on her podcast so screw her I understand Rich (Bluemeanie)'s protest about Morrison-defenders. But as much as I love ya, Welshie, you know you can't paint everyone who enjoys Morrison with that brush.
Yeah, well like I was trying to say, Im a big fan on Morrison as well and have been on his side when people have called the Coyote Gospel story from Animal Man (for example) stupid. I just thought RIP sucked and arent really enjoying Final Crisis either. People keep saying "Yeah, well on the 3th read its really good" but thats kinda like saying "If I force you to listen to Britney sing Womanizer-izer-izer three times back to back you'll find yourself humming it later". You shouldnt have to read his stuff over and over to enjoy it. You should enjoy it the first time then find more to it on subsequent reads if you want to. And yeah, you cant say you dont like his stuff without people thinking its because you are too stupid to get it. Thats what pisses me off. well.... most things piss me off actually

Let me quote VinceB on this one; "You leave me no choice. I must give you karma." I knew that song was trash from listen one. I made through 2 revolutions of the first line repeat and I was out. Clearly the press is trying to make up for the past by propping this chick to high heaven. I can't even call her a guilty pleasure. But I digress. You shouldnt have to read his stuff over and over to enjoy it. You should enjoy it the first time then find more to it on subsequent reads if you want to. Thats what pisses me off. well.... most things piss me off actually I just try to stay away from the shoulds and the shouldn'ts. As I said before, I'm personally not willing to work that hard to enjoy a comicbook, but RESPECT to those who are and then subsequently explain it to me in glorious technicolor. Yeah. I'm talking about you Vince. Rich, tell your wife I said [barrywhite] Hello. [/barrywhite] You lucky sod. Meanwhile, Hi David A Price! Karma to you because you just are.

I loved the Messiah Complex. That stopped me from dropping the X books but now I'm all Manfested out. It's just not holding my interest. So bring on Messiah War. This time last year I never would have thought I'd be dropping Wolverine and Uncanny and getting Green Lantern and JLA. Thanks to you guys.

Oh and I hear Fables is finally slated in '09 for an oversized hardcover collection (ala Y The Last Man)! Whoo-hoo! Obviously anyone who read The Elementals in the 80s would have already realized that Willingham was a comics GOD! Elementals was one of my favorite comics until Comico screwed that whole thing up. It is probably up there on my list of greatest comic book disappointments that Willingham wasn't able to finish the massive Elementals storyline that he was building up to for years.

Wood! You have identified the thing that drives me the most crazy about the X-books. Time-Travel Don't get me wrong. I love Time Travel stories. I just find them used really poorly in X-books except for Days of Future past. The X-books are at their best when the threat to mutants feel like it is happening right NOW! Who cares about the future when you are looking at the barrel of a gun right now. My problem with the X-Men time-travel and/ or alternative timelines is that there are way too many and the writers try to hard to try to make sense of all of it, when it really is impossible. I find the X-Men multiple future timelines more complicated than the DC Multiverse. That said, I do like how the Cable series has two characters from the future (Cable and Bishop), playing off each other. I like to hear the X-Men love as I have been digging majority of the X-Men line since Messiah Complex. It was Grant Morrison that got me back into reading the X-Men on a regular basis, but I haven't enjoyed the whole line of books like I do today since the early 90s. I think a lot is clicking. There are things that can be improved on, but overall I am enjoying the new direction and creative teams, especially Uncanny X-Men and X-Men Legacy. I thought Uncanny 500 was an average read, but Fraction has been kicking butt in the book since then. The many X-Men members on the team reminds me when Claremount and Jim Lee relaunch the X-Men and combined the current X-Men and X-Factor members into one team. It is pretty cool, except I hope that they don't bring back the Blue and Gold team concepts

LOL...the best part of the episode was how surprised and proud Vince was when I busted out the 18 knowledge.
OK, that's a lie. The best part was when Chris joined in and started dropping venom.
Dude bringing the 18 knowledge on an episode that came out the 18th? Meta-Priceless. On behalf of "chosen tribe" comix fans, I salute you (though the pronunciation is like clearing your throat, not the hard "ch" sound . . .half the fun of hebrew is the "chhhhhhh" noise)

Elementals was indeedy great stuff. Bought them all as they came out. It was a fairly basic idea that was really carried out into a great story with some really groovy side characters.
PS I took the Messiah Complex Hardcover away with me on holiday this year and it really got me liking the X-Men again. I had been buying the monthlies like a robot up until then and not reading them in any order. The collection was a great story and a great way to read it.
