I have perspective. I read the entire DragonBall/DragonBall Z series-all 42 volumes.
Determination! Nice. I never made it more than halfway. What is the series with the most volumes, anyway? Naruto?

Those are really fast reads. I got through some volumes in 20 minutes. And I wouldn't have done it without the library. Volume 44 of Naruto is in this month's Previews. It's still being published in Japan so who knows how long that will go. That is one I would like to go back to eventually. I read 4 volumes. There were parts I didn't like (the fights can be confusing at times) but the story seems to be much deeper than first glance. Vince have you read Cromartie High School? That's goofy fun.

I actually enjoyed the Dragonball series once you realized that it wasn't going to be anything more than the prototypical Shonen series. There are series in Japan that have been going on since the '70s, including GOLGO 13 which I think was up near 150 volumes...

No, but it's on my list. The covers and scant interiors I've seen were really well done.

I had a lot of fun this episode. When we started recording this show nine months ago, I would have bet you a million dollars if you said I would be the one championing a Grant Morrison story against a deluge of negative commentary. Wow.

It's different. They're little 4-6 page strips. Some of the jokes might fall flat because of cultural or translation issues. But I think we have similar senses of humor so you'll probably like it. Plus, how can you go wrong when one of the students is a gorilla and another is a giant, muscle-bound, mute Freddy Mercury?

If I can find/dig out the first few volumes, I can send them to you, Vince. I liked what the series tried to do, but I ended up getting tired of it.

I can see that. I only read 4 volumes. Last time I checked there were at least a dozen out. I don't know if I could read that many. Actually, now that I think about it, everyone should read Yotsuba&! too. If you don't love that book, and that girl, you have no soul.

Only if you hand 'em to me in person. It's been too long, buddy.

While I didn't really enjoy JLA #29, it was at least the origin of Starbreaker, who is the villain of this arc. It's not like it was completely out of place.

True, but it wasn't solicited that way. And to my mind, Len Wein deserves to at least be hailed when DC decides to throw him a bone.

That very well may be. I don't pay attention to the solicits, I pick the book up off the shelf.

Nexus talk. What a thing of beauty.
And early Nexus may not be up to Wally Wood levels but wait until you get between issues 25-50 and the Next Nexus mini. That's when I really discovered Rude and fell in love with his work.

Rude lives a few miles away from me. He's always a big hit at the Phoenix Comicon. Al (torchsong on the CGS board) got a nice sketch from him this year.
And I loved that AC interview with him where he just ripped into Baron. I can imagine Chris and the guys staring at each other during the call, going "what the fuck?". (or maybe "...the hell?")

I get tired of the conversation of manga vs. American comics. Can't we just talk about it all as the same thing? Some stuff you'll like, some stuff you won't. I have absolutely no interest in reading Death Note but Akira is one of my favorite stories.
