While I didn't really enjoy JLA #29, it was at least the origin of Starbreaker, who is the villain of this arc.  It's not like it was completely out of place.

It might have felt more like part of the arc if it wasn't handed off to another creative team.

I hope your prepped for the cascading colors of Black & Gold!  Go Steelers!

the Tiki

Yeah. I was in town last Friday and it was all black and gold then too.

A Pittsburgh company bought the company I work for, so the trips here are almost weekly. I hope the Steelers win if only so everyone here stays in a good mood.

I know. Smiley I was responding to Sal's vile sacrilege so I thought my message would be clear but alas... I blew it.

I'm kidding around anyway. I just Hearts Wally's work so I had to say something. However, when talking about two comic artists as accomplished as Wood and Rude, who is better becomes a moot point. They're both great.

By the way, Vince, we're in complete agreement about that Heathentown cover: perfection.

Jim

It's sort of hard to argue one over the other. They are both fantastic. It's mor just tastes at some point.

We can however agree on one thing...Chris is wrong.

Akira is one of the greatest comic books ever. It was so good, I never had the urge to read another manga again. If I read anything else, it will just dilute my manga experience.  Cheesy

Not if you read Tezuka. He is the Kirby of manga. And that is not hyperbole.

Another excellent episode.  Bravo! Clap

I have been wanting to try Deathnote for awhile and will have to jump in.  On this thread though, I love all of the Tezuka talk.  I just read Black Jack Vol. 1 and am hooked.

With the Nexus Archives I have been able to order them through inner-library-loan and have read the first four volumes and can't wait to get more.  Stunning artwork.  I actually gasped on several pages turns at how stunning the linework and layouts were.  A true master.

Peter Gabriel - I worship anything he has ever released and I have enjoyed his recent work as well.  Released is the key word.  If you can get a copy of his version of "Strawberry Fields" it will shatter your soul.  It is pain on a level that is impossible to replicate in any other medium.  Let me just say that listening to it makes me want to read some recent Bruce Jones penned work to get some relief.  It is worth the search.  You can find it through certain "download" sites in a collection called "Rarities".

Bravo Wood for jumping on the Jonah Hex trade and I second the recommendation of the Jonah Hex Showcase.  That and the Unknown Soldier Showcase are the volumes that truly stand out over all others.

And Amanda Conner drawing Power-Girl.  Heaven.

Oh and damn it!  Now I am going to have to go and buy some Space Ghost!

Hey everybody! I've been a loyal listener since episode 1. This show kills a LOT of drawing time.

Thanks to Chris for recommending my book Heathentown and the rest of you guys for chiming in with kind words. I really appreciate it!

I'll be at NYCC at both the APE booth and the Image booth though I don't have a schedule for either. I'd be happy to sell a copy to any takers and give you a free sketch of whatever you want in the bargain. If I'm not at one of those booths you could find me at the Museum of Modern Art or possibly in the 20th Century Painting wing of the Met.

I'm a huge fan of the prestige format Space Ghost book but Wally Wood's Spirit in Space issues are some of my favorite things in the world. I even ripped off WW's rocketship interior for Agent's Of Atlas #2. In case anyone's interested, I'm drawing a three part story in Agents of Atlas 2-4 set in the fifties. I draw 10 pages each issue.

Back at ya.

Figured that there had to be at least one person who would get the reference.

I'm about a half through the episode, the manga talk. First let me thank Wood for the shout out. I will populate this forum with slanguage even more.

Good Talk about FC overall.  Thumbs Up

now I haven't finished the manga talk but Death Note is not the watchmen, its probably still AKIRA being that Otomo made an entire film while still drawing the serialized comic (which had serious delays during that time). I just re-read the whole thing last year over the course of three days. That is a 2000(?) page beast.

I think Death Note is the new hot thing thats a little shonen plus. But remember this comic was serialized at the same time inteh same book with Naruto, Bleach and many others. I read Manga every week (I got a site) and I couldn't get through the first volume of Death Note its not my type of hype, I'll stick to Naruto. Which I feel is the best superhero story being produced in the world right now. Yeah I said it.

oh and I haven't read Nexus either but Rude is nasty with his skill.

more thoughts later

Preach on, Brother Julian! KARMA.

The manga is FAR LESS ANNOYING than the anime series, and for a Shonen-style series, it's quite inventive and has a wonderful combination of action and character moments. People shouldn't let the over-saturated hype fool them -- it's an entertaining ride.  Two Cents

I agree with you guys that the Naruto manga is more interesting than the series. Did I read somewhere that the artist uses some kind of rendering software to 'draw' Naruto? Has anyone else heard this?

As far as Death Note, I think it's an odd comparison. Sort of like comparing Hellblazer to New Avengers. I mean, just becuase they are different doesn't make one better than the other. Anyway, what I find fascinating about Death Note is how complicates the notion of "hero" and how the whole thing is a giant mental chess game. It's very 'literal' in the sense that the fun of the story comes in reading the characters thought processes...

Okay then!  NOW I must give to my dude, mega props for laying the Emma Frost out.  David A Price!! Hearts Hearts

But here's a question I had about Namor's blonde fixation-- Namora?  And Namorita before she went blue?  Wiki here I come...but does this mean Namor had the hots for his cousin?  I have to give the artists props.  I just don't know how Marvel has succeeded in showcasing a barefoot dude strolling around in green speedos successfully.  No wonder Statham passed on the part.  I challenge anyone to cosplay that at NYCC or any con.  And with him in that limo?  In any other scene, with any other person, that would have been car porn.

But yeah, David, I'm with you on the last few pages there.  Emma's operating on Prof. X levels these days.  It's too strange.  And given the type of chick she is, the only thing keeping her from widespread abuse is --her love for Scott?  Lordy, when Jean comes back there's going to be some revenge porn to rival the Saw movies.
