Loved The Fountain! Have a karma!
And have one back- I think you can probably count the number of people who've seen it with one hand- that movie bombed hard- I watched it in the week of release in a 200 seat cinema and I was the only one in there. And it made me cry.

And it made me cry. A lot of people (those who have managed to see it in the first place) seemed to hate The Fountain but I was surprised by how much I liked it. I've got the hardcover graphic novel version painted by Kent Williams too. Aronofsky is one of those directors that will always get my attention. I haven't seen Primer. Yet. Time travel stories can make my head explode. But you guys seem to have survived it okay....

Me too- and loved it. Did you ever watch Southland Tales?- Again, I didn't swing with public opinion- It's a shambolic, schizophrenic of a movie but damn I enjoyed it- the reason I ask is that that had accompanying graohic novels (3 of them)- and again, I really enjoyed the hell out of them (even though I grant, not a lot of it makes what some would call "sense") - In both cases. graphic novels preceded the movies they were supposed to accompany by a year at minimum.

Watching TRUTH IN 24, a documentary about the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. First rate. I'm not even a car racing fan and I'm hooked into the grandiose nature of the story and the focus that the Audi team brings to the race. I downloaded it on a whim since I saw it was free in HD on iTunes. And as an aside, both PRIMER and THE FOUNTAIN have been in my Netflix queue for years and I have no good reason that they haven't shipped yet..., well, other than my wife and kids seem to be in control of the queue rankings.

Urgh..I've watched "Snuff - A Documentary about Killing on Camera" and I really detest it in every way. First of all, the trailer is a sensationalist faux story about an video tape that allegedly contains a real snuff scene. I can't stand that stuff, and I don't think you should make fake documentaries about such a topic. There's probably no reason to use something like a documentary that should be informative and warn about such disgusting stuff. Now, they talk about an apparently [the article by the guardian is still up] real event, in which a russian porn ring produced sick stuff. I don't want delve into what they did, because it still haunts me. Important is that they use this real event as a device so that a somewhat unknown hollywood producer exploit that situation through teary eyed comments. To top it off does the same guy tell a story about a tape that he saw in the seventies, that according to him was a real snuff film. Again, he tries to entice the audience with choked up delivery and just reaffirms my worst fears. Exploit of a cruesome and sickening topic. This piece of garbage even goes as far and sprinkles pictures of death and clips of decapitation in, just to critizise M. Moore's use of the "Columbine" footage in his documentary "Bowling of Columbine". It's sick that people go that far in order to garner some attention for their shoddy pseudo-documentary.

Sorry to take so long getting back- my computer has been sad - read the graphic novels first then watch- it'll give you a bit of help while watching it- that said, there is an intro scene (which is kind of like the start of Watchmen) and it uses panels from the graphic novels. I can't disagree with the critics, it is a a rambling, self indulgent mess- it's just I found it a weirdly enjoyable rambling, self indulgent mess. So I can't in any way promise you'll enjoy it or that it will make a whole heap of sense- I still think it's worth seeing though. Hope that helps.

Because, yeah, you should read the GNs first, because it works better and gives you a definitve and intriguing look into the mechanics of the relationships and the world of ST. However, don't go in and expect something akin to Donnie Darko, even though it shares a lot of the same sentiments, it should be seen as a Sci-Fi movie with heavy biblical influences. The director stated K.Dick as his major influences and you can certainly see it (philosophical, deep and accessable sci-fi elements rooted in realism). And the critics mostly saw the movie at the Canne festival, in which the movie wasn't completely finished and since then had the projects a couple of re-shoots and added CGI for the actual theatre release. Also, most of them didn't read the Novel beforehand, and to be honest, how could they know it's required and isn't hinted at in any way (except the intro that Sean talked about). Actually, I agree with everything that Sean said.
