give me veggie tales any day.
Really? Not me. No Christian propaganda for my spawn, thanks.

Watched Mixtape, Inc. on Hulu. Interesting stuff. I'd watch a documentary about paint drying, though.

Also, finally started Mad Men. It's good. I think my expectations were a little high considering the gushing praise I heard about it. I think I could hear the people on NPR jaggin' it whenever they reviewed it. So, I was a little disappointed, but in for the series. It's not The Wire or anything.

re:veggie tales- you know what? i'm wary of christian propaganda too and i'm catholic! i hate being preached at. but surprisingly, veggie tales has a really cool, absurd and funny sense of humor. they aren't all bible stories tho, and its weirdly funny seeing them acted out by the frikkin produce department! anything that can make fun of bible stories and still teach general moral values (applicable to any faith/belief system) is ok in my book. (though to be fair some episodes more appealing to the non-christians than others). anyhoo, what i'm saying is, give it a try if only to chuckle at the talking tomato.

re: mad men- i agree with you. my expectations were very high, and while it was undoubtedly good, it fell short for me. i liked the office stuff, especially when they're putting together ad campaigns/brainstorming or presenting. i find that stuff fascinating. also like the interaction among the admen and with their assistants. not too interested in the scenes home other than seeing how different things were way back when.

I think the show is very well done and the acting's great. I am only 3 episodes in and already tiring of the forced insertion of moments that show how different the time was. For example, I watched the 3rd episode last night and was just kind of irked when
one of the guys at Don's daughter's birthday party slapped a kid for spilling a drink and the kid's dad admonished the kid (instead of defending his child). It had nothing to do with the story and stood out like a turd in a punchbowl. These little things pop up frequently. Shows like Deadwood don't have to get a day-glo arrow sign and point it at little awkwardly created moments to be triple sure the viewer knows how different the time period was. Doesn't mean I don't like the show, just seems like that stuff veers in That '70s Show's tactics when it clearly is smart enough to be Freaks & Geeks.

The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood, Jr. on Hulu. They've added some great stuff recently (like Black Sabbath, Black Sunday, the Flaming Lips doc, a Les Paul doc)!!!!  Boogie

It's hard to discuss the show, when you're not that far into it. So, I'll vaguely say, that the show definitely beats you over the head with certain aspect, but is clearly sophisticated in every other aspect. The writing, acting and directing, heck, even the lightning is great. And it's clearly character driven and such shows have the tendecy to be rough on general topics that pass them. But I believe the show becomes stellar combining all those topics, and needs some time at the start to establish that. Therewith it's also much friendlier to "unenlightened" viewers.
Still, I would like to hear you opinion after you finished the season.

PS: You're still on my list. Shifty Eyes

Spanish horror film [Rec].  Hot Spanish reporter and her cameraman accompany some firemen to what promises to be a boring, routine call but they're soon running for their lives from possessed demon zombies.  Or something.  It's Cloverfield-ish, in that it's filmed entirely from cameraman Pablo's point of view.  Bumpily, of course.  It wasn't too scary or gory until the very tense final scene.  The fact that I was distracted almost the whole time by Manuela Velasco's hotness is evidence that I wasn't really drawn in.  I'm curious as to how different the American remake, Quarantine is, but not curious enough to watch ostensibly the same film again.

Loads of film noir (there was a film noir season on BBC4)- so Force of Evil/ Murder My Sweet/ Out of the Past/ The Big Combo- all fantastic. And I picked up the Robert Mitchum/ Sydney Pollack film "The Yakuza" cheap from the supermarket (it had a Pollack commentary track so i was sold)- again really good and makes me homesick for the old country. I adored [REC] and loved Manuela (she was too hot). Don't watch Quarantine, friends saw that version instead of the original and felt cheated. It's really almost the same movie, but I think the fact that you don't know the language and the unfamiliar actors help more to build the atmosphere. And in the american version it's the sister of Doctor Grey...
Besides, there's a sequel in the making and the trailers looks intriguing.

Just watched the new Spider-Woman motion comic. Not bad for .99 cents, but I doubt the price stays that way.

Watching Terror is a Man online. It's the first of the "Blood Island" movies by Eddie Romero. This one is B&W and an uncredited version (rip-off) of The Island of Dr. Moreau. It actually has decent atmosphere and acting, so I'm pleasantly surprised. I am excited about getting to the other ones, though, as I want garish color and lots of sleaziness.

Fuck yes.

KARMA!  I've been wanting to watch that ever since I read The Hunter - the original, not Darwyn Cooke's adaptation - and I finally found a rental place that has it.  Looks like I've got some good watchin' ahead of me next week!

Watching Let's Kill Uncle by my man William Castle. '60s matinee fun!!  Boogie
Now that I'm watching it again, the Lemony Snicket books owe this movie a debt for the plot.

Watched the lovely spaghetti western Run Man Run the other day... really fun adventure flick that balanced the humor and danger expertly. It's about an expert knife-thrower who's typically a lovable vagabond, and gets caught up in a search for $3 million earmarked for the Mexican Revolution (if greedy men don't get their hands on it first). I recommend it.
