Okay, I finished ME 3 last night, so MASSIVE end spoilers below, you have been warned. I will start off by saying that Mass Effect is my favorite video game series of all time, I have played the first two games through about 3 times each, maybe even a few more for the first one. There are big problems in my opinion with the ending, they have been covered extensively both here and on the Internet as a whole so I won't go into that.
I loved loved loved the ending mission right up until you go up on that shiny platform. I thought up until that point it was one of the better ends to a game I have seen, very reminiscent of something like a MGS4 which went for a similar feel (the hero is hurt super bad and has to go on guts to finish the job). Then it all falls apart.
Do you want to know how they could have fixed it? Very easily, in probably a day or two of work? A "heroic" "happy" ending.
It should have had a paragon point requirement and a readiness requirement and a War Asset requirement but it should be there. it encourages multiple playthroughs or a completionist run and it gives them a way to extend the fiction in the future if they so choose (I would love to see a ME4 with a new enemy but with my Shepard still hanging about).
so what would be in this ending? Basically the "Destroy" reaper option without it being all synthetics or there being any other consequences. Geth? They are cool! EDI? She is hot in her own little machiney way. Also, those relays? Yeah we still need those. I think the reason this is a big issue for me is because "My" Shepard always had a great option to pick at the end of the first two games, choices that My Shepard would have chosen given an infinite number of options. And when there isn't that option I feel like the character I had spent probably 150 hours being and playing wasn't given "her" option.
I know that life isn't like that, sometimes there are no win scenarios, but that is what I want in my game, I want the scenario where My Shepard WINS. I know I know, this is a story told by someone else but when I want something and I don't get that there is letdown. There is a reason I wanted that, I had spent 3 games building up to that ending cinematic when My Shepard comes out of the final battle as the savior of the universe, yes people died, yes it was hard, but My Shepard saved the day. That is what I wanted to see, that isn't what I saw, I wanted to see what I wanted to see.
I thought the ending was the best possible ending to the Mass Effect series from the time you jump into the Sol system right until you go up that blue platform, right there it goes off the rails in a way I haven't seen in a REALLY long time.
I was disappointed, that happens. But at this point even though I love the series and I love ME3 for the most part the ending negatively impacts my feelings on the series as a whole.
Also, you know they will want to do DLC, I wonder what it will be?

David Cage (Heavy Rain) has shown off his new tech demo. Similar to the Casting demo he released before Heavy Rain it won't be in the final game, but may be an indication of the direction of the game. In this case it looks like it's a Sci Fi game about what make you human. (She is also available as a sexual partner ) Project Kara is seemingly a year old so he claims the actual game engine is 50% better. However this is a blooming impresive demo that looks fairly realistic and really looks to put emotion and feeling into game characters in a way that no other studio does.
http://www.youtube.com/v/xM2Rkqvd5uY&rel=1um... wow i really hope this doesn't end up being PS3 only, cause this is a title i'd like to play.

Not all, but some. You ain't kidding about that Grunt level. Fuck me, my eyes were wide as saucer plates. I thought what Jack ended up doing was brilliant; I really enjoyed her character growth.

I need to stop flirting and being nice to everyone in the game. Now to decide who i'm hooking up with I think i'm about half way through the game. sitting about 20 hours gameplay so far.

Playing ME3 as most are, not very far in the game. just running around doing a few of the citadel missions. Prior to the release of this i was in the process of playing Arkham City and a bit of Skyrim but as soon as ME3 arrived I couldn't resist playing it and its just so easy to slip back into the mass effect universe.
Had to laugh whee the events of the recent Mass Effect comic was summed up in about two lines of dialogue.

I'm planning on writing a big Mass Effect related post eventually, but for now I just wanted to mention that I'm REALLY enjoying it. Each installment has gotten better, for me, and the amount and nature of my enjoyment of ME3 has me strongly contemplating a full series replay.

I want to play this so bad but I have so many holiday games still to play that I am going to be good and not even get it till I have the time to sink into it. From all the reviews and trailers I have seen it looks awesome.

Street Fighter x Tekken is pretty fun. I have to admit though, the fighting game renaissance is getting a little out of hand. I grew up on 2D fighters and I'm happy to see them back, but the market is getting a little over saturated. I guess having too many options is better than having none.

Really? I don't see that at all. When I think over saturation I think FPS' or possibly what Skyrim's popularity might do to the market…but then again…I've been feeling the bitter gamer recently (which I really need to deal with).

i'll be interested to read that. i've played little under 27 hours, and i think i'm about 2/3rds of the way through and the game feels like it just zipped by. i think i'm at the stage where my team mates are each starting to say their goodbyes. really sad with the impending doom. i feel like i've just signed a few death warrants. i hope my in-game girlfriend survives... anybody download from the ashes? is the mission and the character worth the $10? -mike

I think that it's borderline; I got that DLC with my Collector's Edition and I really enjoyed that content, but I don't know if it's worth ten bucks. I just beat it. WHAT. THE. FUCK. Did I just do?

Oh yeah. There are way too many FPS games. I've been done with them for quite a while. Most of the new fighters still feel fresh, but personally, I don't feel the need to stick with a lot of them. Each game is unique, but they take time and dedication to really learn. I'm just going to stick with one or two. I know what you mean about being the bitter gamer. I've been playing more NES and SNES than I have PS3 and XBox 360.

Started playing Red Dead Redemption last night. What a fun game. I love Westerns and this is more open world than I thought it would be. Played for several hours and got a decent feel for the game mechanics and for the game itself. I am having some issues with just discerning bandits/outlaws from other people. I stumbled across an outlaw hideout, which it explained to me in the top left corner and said basically to be careful, they are armed, and I hear someone in the distance say something and I see gunfire. So I am ready to throw down and I shoot the guy who looked like he was coming after me. Next thing I know it says I killed a sheriff or something and I have a bounty on my head. Bullets are now flying by as others are shooting at me. I felt like I was playing GTA for a minute there. I wish regular people were somehow marked, especially at a distance so I know not to kill them, unless I actually mean to. Maybe they are marked and I haven't figured it out yet.
But aside from that the game is beautiful, the story feels engaging and I can't wait to explore the world.
