I could have sworn we had a Green Lantern movie thread around here somewhere...
I guess there was.

I'm sure they're marketing it right (even if there was a lot of Hector Hammond initially), but it still hurts my eyeballs.

I'm not feeling that one, either. Pretty sad when Captain America tops my short list of rainy day maybes. When X-Men was announced I thought it was going to be garbage and that GL was going to be the bee's knees. Then I saw some stills from X-Men and I thought it was going to be Hot Garbage on par with the garbage that was the GL costume design and stone purse. Then as time went on the trailers for X-Men got better. Saw some more McAvoy and Fassbender, got some Banshee action. And unlike what I thought it didn't suck, it's actually looking to be crafted well. Is there anything you want to see this summer Vince (no sarcasm)?

That's a good point. I'll admit that the movie looks a bit better than those X-men stills originally had me thinking. I was wrong on that one (still not really excited for it, but I'm more interested than I was).

If TF3 is better than the other two, I may consider renting it a few years from now. Maybe. But probably not.

I was moderately psyched to see the GL flick when it was first announced and I'm still psyched. I will likely see it, Thor, Cap & all the other Perfect Comic Movie Summer Battlestation flicks via rentals eventually, though...with a baby on the way at the end of summer '11 (and the family-finance savings goals along with it) I am working to restrict my entertainment dollars to: 1) maintenance of < or = $25/week for comics (via LCS) 2) my old hash-pipe that is World of Warcraft...I buy six-month chunks for about $80 post-tax and mostly log on to roll little alts or run a 5-player dungeons with a couple pals and/or goof off in guild chant these days. I'm not conquering the world...of Warcraft. 3) maintenance of Netflix sub , approx. $17/month (two discs at home, currently...we just about never watch discs via Netflix anymore though; I have asked Mrs. about switching to streaming-only. She has some misgivings about losing the disc option...I have no such misgivings.) Dropping $7 or &10 on these flicks, eh...it's just too easy to see 'em some other way or find something else to do until they're available in said easy ways. I don't plan on pirating 'em...my swashbuckling ways are drifting away as I age... I don't mind copious computer imagery though I do admire productions that work things out without it. One of the only things I liked about the film adaptation of my favorite horror video game franchises, Silent Hill, was that so many of the effects were practical, involved humans wearing foam latex, like that Janitor demon early on in the flick. CG can be done well...and it can certainly be overdone to my taste. Top-flight Hollywood stuff seems to prefer Overdone these days. WETA Digital sits on the throne in the Kingdom of My Opinion re: fantastic-looking FX; Nolan's colleagues make my favorite "real-world or similar to it" FX these days.

I'm really thinking First Class is gonna knock plenty of non believers on their assess. Matt Vaughn has skills.
This new GL trailer has a ton of telling when I think they should be showing. The entire corps history and story of parralax can stand as it's own story - it isn't needed for the orgion of Hal Jordan becoming a Green Lanternm, and it isn't needed to explain to newbies what the Corps are: Space Cops.

The non-comic movie going audience in my office don't get Green Lantern.
To quote on of them who was stoked to go see Thor and is looking forward to Captain America. She just didn't get the point of all the weird alien characters. I think it may be a harder sell due to all the space bits and CGI.
However Ryan Reynold might pull people in despite that.
Personally I started out worried and am gettin gless so as more trailers get released.

My wife wants to go because she thinks Reynolds is funny...on the other hand, a guy I work with asked me what I thought about Thor & Priest. He enjoyed them and seemed shocked when I said I was looking forward to GL. He said it looks really goofy. He's an illustrator and tattoo artist who like monsters and manga. Might be a tougher sell than previously thought.

early reviews coming in are NOT good: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/green_lantern/at the time of this posting it was at 29%. and of course this doesn't mean we won't enjoy it, some of us might love it, but i think rotten tomatoes is a good tool for gauging, and to be perfectly honest, this makes me a little

When the bad reviews hit from people that said it didn't look good from jump, will Green Lantern fans cry that the movie was never given a fair shot?

I never expected this movie to be Good<tm> like Hamlet or something. I don't think it's possible for it to be worse than X-Men Origins: Wolverine...but I've been wrong about that kind of thing before, ha ha! I've still got tickets for a friend and I to see it at 4:30pm this Saturday...I'll let you know how it goes, dear readers. My expectations are set to Stun, not Kill. I will be pleased if it's at least as entertaining as the starring-Max-Von-Sydow Flash Gordon flick was in '80 (when I was 7, ye gods).
