It would appear that Tony has updated his blog with a couple progress shots...

It has been at least 3 months (4 months?) and no update. I am a patient man but I wonder if I will ever see what I have paid for. Yes, $3.00 was a hell of a deal, but I am not sure if that justifies the fact that I have no idea what my money was spent on.
I'm not trying to start a fight. I just expect a certain level of customer service that I do not feel I have gotten. Bean

Anyone have any news on Tony's work? I am starting to look at comments like Bean's and agree. I must have ordered mine in May and really haven't seen much. I check his blog on a regular basis, but even that doesn't have work on it. I would understand if he is busy, but who really knows.

I haven't heard anything, but while I did pay money for the sketches Tony is doing, I really look at this as he's doing me a favor. The stuff he's churned out so far has been awesome, and certainly better than what he's charging for it, so I'm cool with him taking as long as he needs to.
I got my first round of sketches last June, and I look forward to getting the rest whenever.

Good Luck with that. Runaways ordered in may among the first wave of 3$ commissions. Still haven't seen one of them. Not really expecting to ever see them. assuming I just gave Tony 50$ for nothing. still would like him to post a genuine explination.

I'm starting to think that's the case. My first order was in May as well. Several people that frequent my LCS put in orders with mine as well, all on my paypal account. I'm not really looking forward to doing the paypal dispute thing 20 odd times...

i would just do the PayPal dispute (as should everyone that hasnt heard or gotten a sketch) since he hasnt even updated his website since October and doesnt respond here. at the least it would grab his attention and hopefully at least get a response as to where things are. sucks to have to do it, but looks like it may be necessary in this case.

I really don't think that will get you guys anywhere. on most transactions Paypal gives you 90 days to make a dispute on the payment made. I just chalk it up to money lost. I was excited as an artist to finally get commissioned art from another artist. Its unfortunate because the guy probably just got in over his head and took way to any commissions to ever finish but couldn't turn down the money. I understood that and thought and emailed him he could clear my whole slate of commissions by just doing 3 interlocking Runaways characters rather then the 16 runaways characters and some buffy characters I commissioned. I still never heard back from him on that. Thats when I figured out he was pretty much going to ignore the commissions.

Ugh. I bet a lot of people are getting burned on this, too. You think I'd have learned my lesson by now. It's not like this is the first time I've been taken by an artist...

I commissioned a few sketches back in May. I told my girlfriend about them and she loved the sketch concept. Now I have her nagging me at least once a week (since June) asking me if I got the sketches or have heard from him. I'm thinking about getting someone else to do them (or do them myself) to get her to drop it. I told her the next time she feels like complaining to call the show.

Ugh. I bet a lot of people are getting burned on this, too. You think I'd have learned my lesson by now. It's not like this is the first time I've been taken by an artist... I am of two minds on this. In full disclosure, I have not had a job other than pro artist since leaving high school twelve years ago. I have had the good fortune of not being "broke all the time" rather I have supported a family on my work. That is due to proffessionalism. A week before New years I did a new years commission sale http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130353865332&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123selling 40 commissions at 10$ per. I set a limit and the promise is that I would do them in one day. As you can see I finished them http://www.artofjon.com/blog/2010/1/1/all-the-new-years-day-commissions-finished.html. Now that is where I am of two minds. As an artist it was on Mr. Fleecs to set a limit and as an artist I gaurantee he knew when he got to the point where the orders surpassed his ability to cover them. What he needs to learn is that as an artist you don't just represent yourself you represent your trade. There are people during that sale who chose you as their first artist to commission and now feel burned and will never do it again. Thats how artists get the flakey, unproffessional reputation. I have been behind on commissions before.we're not perfect. but you have to treat your customers with respect, return emails and try to work things out. The second part of that is on us the customer. A lot of customers get burned because they buy on the cheap. seriously as an artist who has worked on spider-man 3, hammer horror, csi, dr.who and terminator: salvation sets at $10 I do charge the least you should expect to pay for that size. others who have worked on those sets with me charge 35$ and 45$ per card. Is this a cheap purchase? no. But pro artists with a proffessional look on things are worth it. You will get a great work of art and get someone treating you like they appreciate that you put down some money.

I suggest we all keep our fingers crossed. But I wouldn't hold my breath.
I have commissioned several pieces (quite a bit, actually) of art. I would say that at least two thirds of the pieces required some prodding and inquiry on my part to get them completed or even started.
