Karma to King DAP for the Calvin and Hobbes and Far Side love. My dad was a physics teacher so he loved Far Side. I need to read those again. I'm sure there are quite a few I didn't get as a kid that I'd understand now.
The only newspaper strips worth reading these days are Get Fuzzy and Pearls Before Swine

Definitely check out the Moster Society of Evil HC as Vince stated. DC's been knocking it out of the park with those DC Classics Library hardcovers. I have the Live & Death of Ferro Lad HC and it's awesome.

Vince - you've made me insanely jelous that I missed the Slayer tour when they came to KC (three hrs away) last week. I've seen them three times, and they have been totally on top of their game every time... Tell me more...Did they do the buckets of blood during 'Reign'? Did they have the screens with the flying upside down crosses and pentagrams? Did they kill anything?
I did get to see Cannibal Corpse in Omaha last Monday, who is another band who works their ass off. They came here on their night off from the Slayer/MM tour, did they make it as part of the tour to your area? What did you think?

Yes to all of the above, except the blood. Metaphorical killing, though. No one was actually harmed during their performance. They also had a huge, flaming eagle logo, massive explosions, and giant pillars of fire. Fantastic show. Nothing like the relentless assault of the sonic cinderblock to the cranium called Slayer to cure what ails ya.

Ah. Well. I'm still reading it. I bought it when I realized that needing glasses was the underlying reason why I had stopped reading novels. So I picked it up to re-christen my reading skills. No doubt it was on my mind subliminally from seeing it in the forums list at one time or another. That and following Neil Gaiman on Twitter so I can have another point of reference to shoot him one or two.... Meanwhile listening as I'm responding here ... Calvin & Hobbes. Chris, tell me why we aren't closer.

With the whole sadness vs. happiness topic.
It is way easier to make yourself cry then it is to make yourself laugh.
Funny things or happy things are much more mercurial by its nature. It is a very spontaneous reaction to something.

Episode 66 was absolutely phenomenal. Really knocked it out of the park, guys. There's just no way 67 can possibly be as good. Vince says you're never wrong, but I think he MIGHT be mistaken this time. I personally thought this was a damn fine episode; not to say last week wasn't a blast, too.

At this rate we're going to need a 30-second delay button on Chris to keep little kids from losing all hope of whimsy and wonderment.

Really? I guess you could be right, but I can think of funny things and laugh, whereas it's hard for me to cry.

That is because you are a monster. Edit: More Seriously - In my opinion it is way harder to do comedy then drama. Not to take away from drama, I don't think it makes comedy better.

I think JSA All-Stars has tremendous potential to be the DC version of the old New Mutants...young interesting characters that can be focused on but can still interact with the older team members.
Also JSA is regularly in the top 15 books...and I don't think JSA Classified somehow hurt JSA with it's existence.

It's easier to manipulate an audience with drama than it is with comedy. I don't know if good drama is any easier or harder to do than good comedy but I think it is easier to make someone think they're sad than to make them laugh.

WOT?? Maybe in making OTHER people laugh it might be harder, but I crack my own sh!t up ALL THE TIME. And Lord knows crying isn't off my radar, and I do mean currently these days as I near my 45th birthday (and the crowd collective gasped in horror), but I must laugh 120 times vs. my one crying jag per day week month.
