I'd double check on that, I thought I read last year that they were going to set something up so that people could not scalp tickets

You need to put buy the badge in a specific name.  They are non-transferrable (though are refundable if you end up not being able to go, I suspect the con would then re-sell that spot.)

They do not send out the badges, you need to pick them up on-site AND show a photo ID that matches the name on the receipt for the badge.

Certainly does not make it easy to scalp tickets unless you go along with a fake ID.

There is more comics content at San Diego than any other con because it is so massive.  25% of SDCC is bigger than 100% of other cons.   And the comics content in the panels is unparalleled.

That said, if you don't like crowds and want a small con, then SDCC is not for you.

If you want the premiere con out there, SDCC is still the place to be.

Not having been to SDCC, I have also heard that if you take ONLY the comics portion of SDCC (not the movies, video games, toys, etc.) the NYCC matches it (maybe even slightly bigger).  I need someone like Pat Loika to confirm or deny this.  Thinking

Personally, I'm only interested in the comics aspect of the festival.

For better or for worse, when an Art becomes popular it then becomes a business.

You should at least do it once. The after hours is bananas, if you know what to do.

Let the East Coast <-> West Coast battle begin.......

Just wait until the NY con is around a bit longer & someone notices the audience they can reach.  Then you'll start having Broadway shows with booths & TV people that are based out of NYC......   SNL???    Letterman banging chicks from his show????   Cats????

In all seriousness.   Now that you have a decent show on the East coast, there is little need to come to San Diego, especially if you don't want to experience San Diego for what it is (which is a combination of comics and all other pop culture).

I can understand because I have similarly no desire to travel to NY for their con since I have San Diego right here (though I would like to go to Heroes Con one day).

That's an interesting take, Bob. Karma.

Bob pretty much nailed it. Give NY a few more years and it can probably match what SDCC has in terms of programming, or even floor space. It helps also that NY is the home base for a lot of publishers and creators. They're certainly doing their best to fill their convention floor with a healthy mix of publishers, creators and even video game and movie companies. The fact that NY is combining the Comic-Con and the Anime Festival next year is a sign that they're slowly turning their show into the East Coast equivalent of San Diego.

San Diego is a show that I LOVE because, among other things, its my hometown show. People complain about the so-called Hollywood content all the time, but it really brings new people into this thing, and exposes them to our world. Just because hollywood has big and flashy booths doesn't mean they've overrun the show. If you compare the number of movie studios to the number of publishers, big and small, in one list, you'll see that there's far more comics people there. You just have to get past the Hollywood facade. I will say, without any doubt in my mind that any comic fan should experience this show at least once in their life. (you won't believe the number of people I've hooked into this show over the years)
