Finally a show is posted at a time that I'm on that net and is suitable for drinkage. I will have to listen tomorrow morning but to be part of the virtual drink call I'm currently drinking a glass of 12 year old whiskey from the motherland called Nikka Coffey - just flavourful stuff!

I loves the PopSoda. I have three of 'em. Not that one, though. Too pastel for me.

Huh...proving yet again that life is all about expectations, I'm listening back to the episode and it sounds a lot less BLAH than I expected it to after we wrapped up last night.

KARMA to Bruce for a nice, lengthy, passionate response!
Bruce, I definitely didn't mean to convey that TMNT = Great and the rest of the black and white movement sucked. I was simply trying to say that there's a long history in any kind of art movement for derivative and offshoot movements. That doesn't mean some of the derivative work doesn't exceed the original, but much of it doesn't. Frank Santoro was trying to blame Alex Ross for creating a generation of artists that emulate his style, and I just think he oversimplified things and showed a startling lack of historical perspective.
Thanks again for listening and taking the time to chime in! Please do so again soon!

I giggled at first and then I was struck in awe by his awesome review of a book that's still getting re-reads... oh btw, I gotta find a way to split the first 5 minutes of the show as a clip to itself...geez you guys were fuckin hilarious.

Karma to Vince for keeping that in there. I think that intro turned a C- effort into a solid B.

I will download tonight. Should be a nightmare hearing my own voice. Alec CRAZY KARMA to Alec on the contribution! Not only did he take the time to recommend a few books, but he he recommended to WORTHY books. *** Red Mass for Mars = Jon Hickman goodness. I have raging man love for Hickman (puts the Neseman Rucka love affair to shame ) and Red Mass has the potential to be his best work yet. Alec, you are ABSOLUTELY right about Ryan Bodenheim being the goods. Just so you know, Hickman has gone on record as saying that this story is really about what would happen if Superman refused to help save the Earth. Should be great stuff. *** Contract. Garen Madeiros is a guy worth rooting for. I heard him interviewed on the Comic Book Page and he's a cool dude. For those who don't know, he owns an LCS in Bermuda and is pursuing a dream in self publishing Contract. He's also a regular participant in a number of forums, goes by the name Jessie Garrett on the Comics Forums, for example. And last but certainly not least, he hired Joe Rubenstein to ink his book!!!! Alec, onto your last point vis-a-vis CGS being the Marvel while some of the other podcasts as the Indies. I can see how you might have the perception but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. I wouldn't argue that 11 O'Clock is one of the small press publishers (not sure if we're Heavy Metal or Top Cow though ), BUT I think you are selling Around Comics short. In my eyes, there are three extremely popular comics podcasts...Around Comics, iFanboy and CGS. Those three are all, frankly, a lot more popular than the rest of us, and deservedly so. The rest of us vary from "popular" to "completely off the map" and I think for the most part we're all OK with that.

CRAZY KARMA to Alec on the contribution!
Not only did he take the time to recommend a few books, but he he recommended to WORTHY books.
*** Red Mass for Mars = Jon Hickman goodness.
I wanna comment on Red Mass, *puts on a (insert random 11-o/c host) hat*...it was more of a Enki-Bilal-meets-Children-of-Men, that through the desperation, there is hope, but it's a questionable one. It was so flawed and yet a really thought-provoking story that has a reflection on our world. From the epidemic to the losing war, and just to see how it connects to our world and how one day, our fear of change may happen because the one thing we depend on...isn't there to save us. The way Hickman puts this together...just astounding! And Ryan Bodenheim, his work just compliments Mr.Hickman's writing voice. The two here are a wonderful pair, and I really hope to see more works coming from this particuluar duo...but for anyone interested in seeing more of Mr.Bodenheim's work here is the site: http://rbode777.deviantart.com/and if you're not getting this book, it's a crime! Don't let this one go to waste, pre-order for the next issue! -------- *breathes*...geez, typing that long killed me!
