That looks cool.  What 40 Euros in American dollars?  Yes

I didn't answer your question with the last post, did I?

With shipping, the thing will run you around $100, I believe. Maybe. I don't know.  Bangs Head

In other news, I'm making a sound byte of David's laugh in this episode.  I didn't have enough travel time to replay it as much as I wanted to yesterday.  Oh my God I love David.  I LOVE this man.  I love him.

Timestamp 1:06:40 for all you playing at home, when Chris is whishing they had something like a Googlewave to share artwork with the listeners and David is caught unawares by Chris' Prician brand of sarcasm and absolutely BUSTS OUT in a laugh---!  Oh my God David.  Dude that was a happyfuntime on Rt 17 heading into Ringwood, NJ kind of laugh, man.  Lemme tell you.

Chris, you are projecting a revisionist view of what was in superhero comics in the silver age.

Cheesy  It's alright, Vince!  Thanks for the information.  Spooky supplied the conversion (little over $56 for the book itself) for me.  Thanks, Spooky.  He posted some videos too; did you see those?

No I'm not.

I'm just stating a fact that the level of scripting in most comics is much more sophisticated in 2009 than it was in 1967.

Thanks, Richard. Since Warren Ellis ended the Bad Signal I've missed the usual British weather reports. Nice to know that global warming is still a myth there.   Tongue

David, nice grab getting Story of the Year from Dan's holiday giveaway (I got Bone vol. 1 for my wife's classroom).

It seems like Moore's Image work sometime gets overlooked, but between Year and The Return you have two of my favorite Moore stoies. Of course it helps that they are basically Superman stories.

I need to check and see if the library still has copies of those trades. It's been a couple years since I read them.

Sorry, I wrote my first post while riding the L, so I couldn't elaborate.

Your use of the word "sophisticated" in this belief should really just be that dialog in general is different today.

The same can be said of plenty of films and TV of the same era.

However in the case of stan lee comics, I would point to the obvious examples of the FF classic This Man This Monster, and the Galactus arc, whose dialog and plot were pretty sophisticated for its or any time.

Further, Chris also said that the silver age audience wouldn't tolerate "non-action superhero stories", like a modern Bendis Avengers story featuring dialouge as they watch TV...

again, that's a narrow and incorrect view of many superhero stories of the silver age.

You yoursef a few weeks back mentioned that great DD story, when Namor shows up to hire Matt Murdock to sue the surface world for damages to Atlantis.

In the FF there were stories like the group sitting around the Baxter Building, reading fan-mail, delivered by postman Willie Lumpkin , which almost read like a sit-com "clip show" featuring single images of a struggling FF against The Hulk or Dr. Doom.

There are dozens of Superman Weisinger era stories that are flat out silly humor parodies , that feature no "action scenes at all", but are meant to teach Jimmy or Lois a lesson, or show fat kids how best to exercise
(per presidential directive by JFK).

Just like today, the big 2 (even corny old stan) did a lot more than just straight up action stories in hero books.

I would instead, compare stan's silver age books aimed at tweeners, to the marvel adventures/johnny dc stuff, and see how well stan's old books compare to todays stuff.
