Wait - When Harry Met Sally is a romantic comedy and it's great. So maybe I was wrong about all Romcoms.

Shaun of the Dead was a ZomRomCom, so I can't write the whole genre off.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I adored Let The Right One In. It was one of the best movies I've seen that year, and the best vampire movie I've ever seen. So take that in mind when I say Let Me In is worth watching. It is definitely a very close remake, but it is exceptionally well done, and the performances are all wonderful. It does a few things better than the original (the bully in the US version is THE WORST!!!! I wanted to kill that kid myself), whereas some of the special effects overstep a bit. Still, I really enjoyed it.
Also, I watched Rec and Quarantine in the same day. Rec was fantastic, and I watched Quarantine just to see how different a different set of directors and actors handled the story, and this one wasn't nearly as successful as Let Me In, but I did enjoy it for what it was. Rec was an easier movie to get sucked into because I didn't know any of the actors, and the camera felt like a news camera, whereas Quarantine was a little too polished.
I do agree that it's a shame that original movies aren't supported in their natural state. I don't get it myself. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to read subtitles, but I really love watching foreign films. Mainly because that is where all of the best horror is coming from these days.

i thought quarantine and rec were equally good, i get what you mean about quarantine being more polished. but that's just kind of the state of things now, all news stations have hd cameras. but being mostly a shot for shot remake, just in english, i liked both. still haven't seen let me in, but my wife and i both loved let the right one in. we'll probably get to it eventually, but no rush.

One thing that hurt Quarantine for me was that it used a lot small actors that I've seen in dozens of other things. While that is the case for a lot of movies, I found that it hurt Quarantine for me. I still enjoyed it, but Rec was an A+, while Quarantine was a B, compared to Let the Right One In which was an A+, and Let Me In was an A.
One thing that I hated about Let Me In was the director never acknowledged the original movie in the extra features. Maybe he did in the commentary, or in interviews, but not in the extras. Instead he talked a lot about how they were trying to be faithful to the book. That's all well and good, except the Let Me In looks exactly like Right One In. The courtyard, the playground, all of it. If they were working from the book, the vision of the same scenes would have been different, but it wasn't. I thought that was a little crummy, but the movie was still excellent.

I've seen [rec], but not Quarantine. The reporter in [rec] was hot, so I'm perfectly satisfied sticking with that version. Maybe the author of the book was just really, really good at descriptive writing.

just watched brokeback mountain for the first time. great performances, but i thought it was a little slow at times. i think the most impressive thing about it is the fact that ang lee directed it, really a testament to his talent as a filmmaker.

I saw an episode a few years ago and sadly it didn't hold up as well as I remembered. The story beats were still there but things were slightly off kilter with the animation and like it was was on fast forward at times. Still a good Spidey show though.

ha, yea i hear ya. i have the same problems with the 90s X-Men stuff too in that way. they arent nearly as bad as how lousy the old TMNT cartoons actually are though. i bought the initial dvd set out of nostalgia and it immediately shattered my found memories.

I did the same thing. I don't think I've had a more shocking experience than watching the old TMNT cartoons again. How could my memories be that off? At least the modern cartoon was better.

I refuse to watch the old TMNT cartoon, because I shattered my childhood by watching some Thundercats as an adult. OMG, so bad. Y'know, it's safe to watch the show intros though, those are still dope, because they spend so much money on the animation for them. The actual cartoons from the 80s and early 90s though? With few exceptions, are the pits.
