Vince (and guys) great show this week.
FYI, speaking of Fantagraphics I just interviewed VP Kim Thompson. We talked a lot about European translations and we even touched on Jacque Tarde. CCL #253 will be up next Wednesday.

blog / facebook / twitter / last.fmListen to the 'THE CHEMICAL BOX' podcastsComics were definitely happier, breezier and more confident in their own strengths before Hollywood and the Internet turned the business of writing superhero stories into the production of low budget storyboards or, worse, into conformist, fruitless attempts to impress or entertain a small group of people who appear to hate comics and their creators. - Grant Morrison

Mr. Wood, once again you speak my thoughts
I have the same reaction about Cat Hank every time I see him. When the old school beast showed up in Secret Invasion, I was soooooo hoping it would turn out to be my "Stars and garters" Beast (and for that matter I was hoping to get back the the yellow shirt chain-link belt tiara-wearing Hero For Hire Luke Cage).
Beast is drawn so differently by so many artists in recent years (sometimes he is a short old spectacled cat man, sometimes a tall fierce looking jaguar man, in SWORD he is the offspring of a horse and Garfield, etc) it has affected my impression of the character. Cat Hank is like Beast II from the alternate Cat Earth Hank. I would even welcome a return of the human form Dr McCoy, seen on more than one occasion.
I also echo the sentiment by a poster this week to reunite Beast with Wonderman. Simon is kinda lost in the shuffle these days. And what SWORD team couldn't use a guy who "hits as hard as Thor"?
The Beast used to be one of my absolute favorite characters, but he's been such a mess for so long now that I shudder when he gets panel time. It's a travesty. And Simon used to be all sorts of fun. Now, no one seems to know what to do with him. Bring him back to his former glory, Marvel!

re: Marvel Graphic Novels from yesteryear
So as luck would have it I was browsing a nearby used book store at lunch today and ended up filling a large bag full of quarter bin comics, some used TPBs (Nick Fury vs SHIELD, Hulk "Return of The Monster), a pile of Epic magazines, and there thery were: a bunch of the Marvel graphic novels you all were talking about. I had serveral of them, but picked up the "Killraven" and "Black Widow: The Coldest War". Your talk may lead me to buy up the rest of the ones I don't have.
Another way of saying it is: every time I listen to the 11 O'clock weekly discussion, my wallet gets lighter (but in a good way). Can't wait to see what you guys lead me to buy next....

(cat) Beast is like Thor. Their new designs are perfect and make their past designs look silly. I hope they stay that way FOREVER!

Oh, and speaking of Thor's new design... ill probably never buy a statue or heroclix just cuz in my mind grapes i think about the number of comics i can buy for the same price. but..... I only have one statue right now (the "Fett-man", Boba Fett) but I decided I have to get this one. Maybe it's cause of Wood's talk of his statues, but I got it in my mind now that I can't live without this statue. It's so bad ass! I got the spot picked out on my bookshelf and everything.
