Are you saying PA and WV are worse than NJ? Really? I've spent time in all three states in question, worked in two, and um... no. Jersey's not the worst state in the union by any stretch, but it's no where near the top either.

I went to college in PA, and really don't think any of these three states should rank highly in anyone's destinations if they have a choice. That said, objectively if we're really going to have a pissing contest, NJ is demonstrably better off than PA or WV.

I mean, NJ isn't the tops by any stretch, and we have our meatheads and dumbasses like anyone (witness MTV's Jersey Shore), but by virtue of where we're located, and the wealth and established history of the area, we're among the wealthiest and best educated and safest states in the Continental 48. Of course, our asinine sense of government entitlement also leads us to have ridiculously high taxes (7% sales, some of the highest insurance rates in the country, some of the highest property taxes in the country) and we're extremely crowded with long commutes.

My first choice? HELL NO (but I have to be here b/c I work in NYC and living where I live is MUCH MUCH MUCH preferable to the alternative of living in Manhattan), but more attractive than West Virginia or Pennsylvania, on average? Easily.
