All the existing same-day stuff from IDW dropped from $3.99 to $1.99, (Locke & Key, GI Joe Cobra) obviously that doesn't mean they'll change their mind but so far they've been doing the drop.

In other news, the IDW app is now powered by Comixology.

Good news though! Your books bought in the IDW app (not iVerse unfortunately) will carry over to the new Comixology powered app and ALSO to the Comixology mothership app.

THAT is interesting and that's exactly what I figured would happen.  This is why I buy almost all of my digital comics from the publisher's own app and NOT from the Comixology, iVerse or Graphic.ly apps: I'm worried that when publishers change the software powering their app that they'll turn off the reciprocity shown to titles bought outside of their own app. 

I'll get some things like Atomic Robo via Comixology just because you have no choice.

Hey, I'm all for admitting being wrong sometimes

Then again Red5 is a different animal than Marvel/DC, but still, it seems to prove it can be done AND more profitable sometimes.

I wasn't saying that you were wrong. Just that it can work the way we suspected. Not for every publisher of course. Bigger publishers have to deal with benifits, higher salaries, contracts and such.

I'm just happy that it can work for one, that means other can make it work for them. All this means is no more diamond minimums for struggling books, and that the digital audience seems to be quite different from the paper audience. Things that we all speculated on, but never had any real proof. If we call one tweet proof.

Red 5 Comics is always open to looking at quality creator-owned projects for publication. A creator-owned project is one where you and your team deliver print-ready pages, and Red 5 Comics looks after marketing, printing, distribution and related activity. The comic is published and there is a profit-split. You and your team retain full rights to the intellectual property.

In other news: Journey Into Mystery is now day and date digital. One and done holiday issue is up on comixology. It's supposed to be. Great issue for new readers (gotta plug my favorite series!)

That's right...Marvel and DC have overhead and that's why they're best suited just pumping out books that will sell a lot (relatively speaking) like Batman, Avengers, etc. 

Scott and Brian have overhead too, it's just called "not getting paid for your work" or sweat equity.

I think this is a great idea and it shows how the medium can be used.   It allows for the artist to have direction in what the person sees and still can create that page turn moment by directing the reader into the time that they see the specific reveal.

Here's for a relatively related aside...

I've got copies of just about all the comic company apps on my iPad as well as Comixology and Graphicly.

Originally, I took a good look at Graphicly in no small part because I wanted to support the supporter of the great folks at iFanboy, but I've got to admit, I'm pretty much down to Comixology, as I just don't want to be trying to remember which app I've got which book in, so I'm going to go with the cleanest reading experience and the greatest collection of day-and-date and back issues in one place. I'm using the Dark Horse app (which is surprisingly good for reading) because I'm loving catching up on my Buffy back-issues and new stuff), but that's about it for publisher apps. 

Do you think we're just going to end up with one online source? 

Personally, I'd rather have a really good comic reading app that I could by content for anywhere.

They already pretty much have. Every major publisher app is run by Comixology. They're the only ones who get same-day Marvel/DC (or DC at all for that matter)

I can't imagine it will stay that way, unless it is worth it to Marvel and DC to have another middleman, and not have to pay for the development and support of their own systems. If that's not worth it to them, I get it, but I just assume that at some point in the future you'll have a DC app and a Marvel app, built from the ground up by both publishers, that isn't tied to anyone.

I could be very very wrong though.

At this point I don't see that happening.  I do want to see Comixology do more updates to their app this year, which I hear they will be .
