I'm waiting on Afrodisiac, but I'd like to also pimp Black Dynamite for as a great movie! So places it's really slow, but the overall cut I saw was fantastic. I even review it for my newspaper: http://blogs.lasvegascitylife.com/cityblog/2009/06/12/fight-smack-in-the-orphanage-black-dynamite-at-cinevegas/I haven't listened to the full episode, but regarding Watchmen 2 as an anthology: I think it's a great idea if you can get top notch talent to do short stories, but having a Rorschach by Brubaker and Lark makes the book feel like nothing more than a question story to me. I think doing these stories would make the characters nothing more than your standard capes & tights heroes. While I love those stories, these characters were post-capes and tights in many ways, and so I'd be one of those fans who'd just refer to his absolute.

Episode 94, so good I actually listened to it twice! Back to back!
And for anyone who hasn't seen Black Dynamite, it's out on DVD this week!! If you're a fan of 70s blaxploiation films, you'll get a big kick out of it. Hey, even if you're not, it's pretty damn funny.
(and no, I'm not getting a cut of the profits... just a huge fan of the movie!)
I'm off to Kung Fu Island...

I feel like loser posting 1,000 posts too late but 11 oclock comes out on my day off and i usually dont listen to it until saturday or sunday.
On Watchmen 2: I think Chris is right but honestly I am not really interested in another Comedian or Dr. Manhattan story. For me the characters and plot in Watchmen was always A but not A+. What I did find above and beyond the competition was the comentary... Watchmen was not about the death of the Comedian, it was about the death of counter culture, of left wing ideals... it was a world where the coolest person you can aspire to be is Glen Beck in a shifting ink splot mask.
The movie got at least that part right... they really pointed out how Nixon had won and the hippies had lost. I would be interested in Prequels if it is about seeing Communists and Anarchists defeated first, followed by socialists, hippies and all the way to liberals mostly disapearing, giving way to the almost fascist america that Watchmen takes place in.

On the Bendis-Avengers discussion, I did find it interesting that there were a lot people online thought the end of New Avengers meant that Bendis was leaving the Avengers. That idea never cross my mind. If you listen to his interviews on Word Balloon, it sounds like Bendis was a long plan for the Avengers. And Marvel isn't going to kick their top writer off their top book. Just like Johns on Green Lantern or Morrison on Batman, the editors are not going to kick them off the book unless the creator wants to leave or the sales on book start taking a nose dive (relative to other books). I think people got caught up in the Marvel hype of "7 years in the making" and the launch of the "Heroic Age". Those things are attempts to get more people to read the Avengers books.
BTW, my guess is that Avenger will be a biweekly title, not a three times a week like Spider-man, because as a team concept, it would be easier to do multiple titles with different characters. I also think we see a return of the West Coast Avengers. Marvel is releasing a hardcover of the first mini-series and generally Marvel doesn't release hardcovers of old stories without a "tie-in" to what is happening with current books.

To be fair, Moore and Gibbons were also working under the assumption that they would get the rights to the work back eventually.
Let's be honest, that was a very foolish assumption. In business, you don't make assumptions like that. I'm not trying to be coy or dismissive. In an ideal world, the DC suit's word as they sat across the table would've been bond. But when it comes to protecting yourself, Gibbons and Moore should've never assumed good faith; you get things in writing and make sure you pay good lawyers to help ironclad your stake!
If it wasn't for Dick Giordano, then editor-in-chief of DC Comics, telling Moore and Gibbons that their treatment of the Charlton characters were a bit too extreme and maybe they should tell the story with their own characters, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I am not saying that they don't deserve to be creators and own the rights, but people forget that the characters of the Watchmen are essentially the Charlton characters. Now, I also do think producing additional material featuring the Watchmen characters would be tough and DC would have to get some pretty GREAT creators to do it, but I find it hypocritical for fans that read DC and Marvel super-hero books to be so against the idea of telling additional stories featuring the Watchmen characters. Should we stop reading Amazing Spider-man stories once Stan Lee left? Should we stop reading Batman once Frank Miller told the best Batman story of all time?

Perhaps immonen will show up on the second or third or fourth Avengers books that will be released.

I wish they kept Immonen on as well. However, since they are relaunching the title, they had to shake up the creative team. I hope he will be back on soon as well. Or perhaps, another Avengers title.

RE: Immonen, I think he's a talented guy (thanks, Captain Obvious ), but I really haven't enjoyed his Avengers issues for the most part. Something has seemed off, and to be honest I haven't taken a ton of time to zero in on what's bothered me, I just know they haven't been my favorite issues. For example, I much preferred Yu's run.

I much preferred Yu's run. You're kidding, right? Ha ha. Good one. Huh, thought you were serious there for a second.... re: Immonen, I think his art is fantastic. The thing that always throws me about is what Bendis has his artists draw. I mean you can only make a group of people staring at a tv look interesting in so many ways. But Immonen's group action scenes (where Bendis just tells him "to have them fight") are terrific, and a great relief/ improvement from Yu. Yu,......you had me there for a second. Good times.

I thought Yu's run was fantastic, and I'm not alone Fair enough. I know some people liked him. I thought his style was jarring, particularly on a team book like Avengers. Beyond the undead facial features on everyone he drew, I didn't like his pose heavy style of action scenes (I cringed during his Hood vs Wolverine battle in NA). That's probably why I LOVED when Immonen took over - the action scenes under Stuart were so much better (and I told Mr. Immonen that when I met him in Toronto last August). His Mockingbird against the Hood's minions added to NA what was lacking for a long time - display of movement. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I'm just gald Leinil has moved on to other projects. Bring on JR JR

Really? People can't like that run. No run since has been as GANGSTA! IT. HAD. NINJAS. And fighting. And punches to the face. That brought me back to the title. I dropped right when he bounced. I love Immonen (shoot he can Hitch better than Hitch sometimes) but I love Yu too. They do fights differently, like different directors in a Bond series. Maybe Immonen didn't want to draw avengers anymore either.

I was one of them as well. I thought his work on New Avengers and Secret Invasion was his best stuff.
