Couldn't tell you the name of the artist, but you did a real nice job for your first time.

The yellows scanned brighter than they look in real life. That's weird.

Thanks eva I had a lot of fun working on it. Here's a picture of the original that I tried to copy. And in my defense I didn't know we had a photo of it until after I was pretty far into my paiting. I just did another painting as a valentine present for my mom but I don't have a photo of it yet. I'll post it later tonight or tomorrow though.

Did you paint the figures white or just let the canvas show? I can't tell in the picture.

I painted them white but as you can see I'm pretty light of the paint all around so you can see some canvas coming through in places.

Ya I did, I started drawing it out Saturday night and painted it between work and dinner on Sunday. I'd say I spent around 5 hours on it.

That's pretty good. I like that you used more than a flat wash of color in the background and in the figures. One thing you can do in the future to avoid those little bits of canvas showing through is to use a little bit of water on your brush each time you get some paint on it. The water helps the paint flow off the brush better and will help it get down into those little cracks. If you're using oil paint, use turpenoid, damar varnish, Liquin or you can mix your own thinning agent by combining turp, damar varnish, and linseed oil. Also, combining and mixing wet paints in the background will give you more depth and make it look a little more fluid and blended. Keep painting, you'll find you get better each time.

Cool thanks, I'll try to incorporate some of that into my next painting which I'm just about to start. One thing that always confuses me is how to paint the backgrounds. Should it be done as an under-paint? If so are you supposed to paint the background and then draw your foreground to paint? Currently I've just been drawing everything out at once and then painting it all.

I'm, as usual, loving your very unique style, Timothy. You're our Jeff Lemire of the Drawing Board! Love the new paintings, keep it going

very cool... I miss painting (I do watercolor stuff here and there but haven't touched oil paints in forever), I need to take some classes, my college painting courses were rubbish.
