http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/03/13/seven-newsbites-from-emerald-city-comic-con/4. Geoff Johns says no to Marvel/DC crossovers and puts the blame on Marvel’s recent incentive for publishers to return stripped covers of DC comics in return for Marvel rare variant comics. I understand that at one point, DC investigated the idea of printing up thousands of spare covers and sending them to Marvel, but legal counsel advised against it.Damn lawyers. the Tiki

Y'know, while in a way it's too bad DC didn't do that as a way of providing their own little incentive to retailers, I'm kinda glad they didn't. Management there has always at least appeared to be trying to take the high road in regards to their competition, and I would've been a little disappointed in them had they sunk to that particular brand of PR.

Seems like a silly reason for not doing it.
With the creators working for both publishers these days, I figure it'd be a license to print money. But why give the readers what they want?

Yeah, before that it was "ohhh, Marvel dropped the comics code, they are sooo naughty, they might get us in trouble too if we do a crossover". DC always has a reason to not do a crossover. I agree that the covers thing was a middle finger to DC and was rude but it was also a bailout for retailers burned by tricky marketing.
Still I do want my Hellblazer/Punisher crossover via Max/Vertigo.

These crossovers are a license to print money, man. ( DAP beat me to this expression) If they want to throw it out over some dumb shit, they don't really have a passion for whatever story they might have told in the first place. I'm so sick of Marvel vs. DC... fe fi fo figga, Chris Rock style.

But why give the readers what they want? ....because that's just about the worst way to produce art.

Regardless of hurt feelings... do we really need a crossover? Do we really need so many Batman, Avengers, or Deadpool comics? If the story is there, tell it. People can buy it if they want to.

Regardless of hurt feelings... do we really need a crossover? There have been so many in the past that the novelty has worn off for me personally. the Tiki Hey, you guy's can play stone faced but the moment a crossover is posted on this forum you dudes will be the first to geek out. Also given the quality of writing these days I would expect crossovers to overcome the "meet, fight, team up" formula. I mean there is a lot of cool stuff that could be one, this is right off the top of my head: New Acts of Vengance: DC and MARVEL villains trade foes and share intel for a mini series that has heroes barely holding their own against unfamiliar oponents. Exiles tour the DC earths: exiles battle the crime syndicate or meet elseworlds characters. REBELS meet Guardians of the Galaxy: they should before something happens to these two fan favorite cosmic books. And dont get me started on an amalgam remix, you know, switch up all the characters again so you get batman/daredevil or superman/thor.

Yeah, before that it was "ohhh, Marvel dropped the comics code, they are sooo naughty, they might get us in trouble too if we do a crossover". DC always has a reason to not do a crossover. Did I miss something? I don't recall DC ever stating this as a reason not to do a crossover, and it wouldn't make any sense anyway. DCs had non-code approved books for a long time, including stuff happening in their main-line universe. Why would Marvel's dropping the code have anything to do with crossovers? As far as I know, the reasons for DC having no interest in those books has been the same for around ten years now, mainly that they feel management and editorial at Marvel don't have any respect for them, and they don't want to work with them. From the AOLComics incident (1000 internets to the first dude to call Quesada CEO of DisneyComics to his face at a con) to the Blackest Night covers, DC may always have a reason not to do a crossover, but Marvel's not exactly making it hard for them to find one.

Seems like a good reason for me. It's like if a playground kid stole your Goosebump book and then complained that you wouldn't trade POG with him. .......not that I speak from personal experience...

Didn't you know? DC Comics is run by a bunch of seven year-old's. It's comics for kids, by kids. Regardless, I don't really care about a Marvel/DC crossover, unless Busiek and Perez do a JLA/Avengers follow up.

No. It is about not doing business with a COMPETITOR that recently try to market their books with a stunt trying to trash the other company's books. It would be like Microsoft forming a joint venture with Apple at the same time Apple is running their commercials making fun of them. Never going to happen.

Anything that could be accomplished story-wise between the two universes could be done within each universe if they wanted to. The only reason to do it is $ and fan service and nothing really great is likely to come out of that. So that's fine if they don't want to do it, even if you think their reasons are childish. We're probably not missing out on much.
