I hate to call you out, Alan, but you're dead wrong. I deduct 10,000 points from your score. Hmm. Doesn't SEEM like you hate it! But ... you are Rick Hansen, Storyteller of my Heart. I'll allow it. For the nonce. Plus, you sing to me. Wait....what? I may simply be spaced out and forgetting something obvious, but why are we comparing Lim to Broderick?
Broderick did those last issues of the original Captain Marvel series in the '70s... that's why. That's the Marvel Cosmic I have in my head, predating the Lim stuff. It made an impression that Lim cannot outdo. But again, I begrudge you nothing! I'm glad to hear your experience and your love for the Lim. I'm glad you had a go-to man.

I don't know what it is about old comics. Even ones I haven't read. I get an enormous amount of pleasure out of them. I even bought those comics on CD-Rom before Marvel pulled the plug. I don't know if I am pointlessly chasing the dragon, but it makes me happy. Hope the Professor Tom Morris has a great day!!!

I have to say that Quasar did appear fairly effeminent. That cover to Quaser 34 makes him look a bit like a woman. I don't mean no offense, but I did do a double take. Maybe the metrosexual.

Capullo drew him (and most everyone) very fair, with few lines, both typically characteristics of rendered females in comics. I've got covers picked out for a 70s-early 80s gallery....I'll have it up tomorrow, Rabbit!

Steve, Steve, Steve. LUSH, brother!! Cosmic Covers from the 60s-70s-80s: That's the Broderick art there in Captain Marvel that I remember. I have a new series to hunt in the bargain bins now. I think it's the sideburns. And that Avengers Annual is the one where Thanos kills Pip. So sad that way this one played out. I want this issue again.

....they reprinted it in the MMW warlock v2, which has all the Starlin warlock stuff, plus the Byrne Marvel Team-up and the Gene Day 2-in-1 regular issues!

Thanks to all the Marvel Cosmic talk, I checked Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos out of the library. It is a great read so far. I like Starlin and Lim. I have the Silver Surfer issues already but have not read them since who knows when. I think the art works great and one thing I really like is the balance of humor with gravitas. It is a heavy book with Lady Death and Thanos but it also has really good humor. It also has a little whimsy as well. It was a little heavy handed with the pollution/overpopulation message but didn't really hurt the story for me.
The one nit-pick that did hurt the story was the silver surfer claiming to be a "human being." I thought he was from Zennla (Zen-la, Zenn-laa, I can't spell). Is there some retcon I missed where he is now a human being? Unless it is a great story, I will skip it and continue to pretend his is an alien.
Thanks again. Marvel Noise, the gift that keeps on giving.

He was human, like the other residents of Zenn-La. Humans are on bit worlds, where humans on Earth would be Earthers or Terrans and humans from Zenn-La would be Zenn-Labradoodles. Well, something like that.

Thanks for replying. For some reason to me, human beings are what we earth types are (unless Zenn-La was founded by earthlings in the future, err, I guess it would be the past?). I would have preferred him to say, "mere mortal" or "sentient being" or "living thing." I always liked how the surfer was an outsider and that gave him some limited authority to comment on the collective "us" (earth people) and try to set us straight from our bad ways.
