Steve, I gotta tell you, your segments are nothing short of amazing. Once you get a few minutes in, the "ums" and "uhs" disappear and you come off as the most knowledgeable, prepared and professional speaker one could imagine. I'm really impressed by this installment of Raker's Dozen in particular. I don't even come close to this polished, and I write most of my scripts out. You have once again set the bar and I will continue to aspire to your audio smoothness, even though I'll never attain your proficiency of all things Marvel.
Well, alright!....I did good. Thanks, Sailor!

I've always loved that cover....Ken Steacy (Heavy Metal, Star*Reach, Pacific Comics Bruce Jones anthology books), if I'm not mistaken. I still have my Try-Out book on my shelf.....started inking one panel one time about 25 years ago, but other than that, it's clean.

Geez Raker! Either you’re reading my mind or I’m reading yours. Something is going on here I just bought Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor Vol.7 at the con last weekend and was going to ask about it since it seemed to have the cosmic and like the thing you might have read. There were a few volumes of Thor Masterworks floating around for about $25-30 so I had to buy one. I didn’t realize they were so cheap until all my stuff was being added up that I should have got another. I knew some of the early Thor stuff was a little looser continuity wise and probably not as good. It might get collected in an Omnibus with a Thor movie coming out so I went with a later volume with 7 that has a Galactus cover. I was hoping I choose well since I’ve barely read any Lee/Kirby Thor.
Stop following me.... I've been grabbing a Thor MMW a month for the last several, and just finally am up to and ordered (for a 'self-birthday present') vol 7....I've never read all of these, just scattered chunks here and there in reprints, so I'm really enjoying starting to go through 'em.......I might as well get credit for the experience and share it with you yahoo's. Great to hear some thoughts on the current Thanos stuff since I know you’re so critical and such a Thanos fan. I haven’t got around to reading the one shot of #1 of the mini yet. Looking forward to it.
I so don't want to be the crabby old fan, but honestly, although I'm enjoying the looks of these books and the stories overall, the characterization of the Starlin characters rings hollow to me.

Banner's knockers are a real turn-on, too! It was nice to hear someone voice my own disdain for the character of Daken. I also feel the same way about Red Hulk; do you? Am I just afraid of change? I just think that the addition of these two new Red Hulks, A-Bomb, et al are all just watering down the Hulk universe. Do they genuinely feel that there is just nothing left to be done with ol' greenskin, so they HAVE to introduce these new characters? There's a wealth of older Hulk characters who haven't been overused and can be brought back for effect. The Pantheon, Speedfreak, Half-Life, the U-Foes.

Here's a look at the pages I made from my aspiring artist days in high school. See? Soooo much fun! Rick, thanks for sharing! I particularly like the organic textures you gave your tree trunk and cabin...pretty cool for a young lad!

I feel your pain, but in the case of the Red Hulk, I've risen above it (although it took me about 10 issues to do so). I'm reading Hulk titles in HC, and have really been enjoying them as a whole. A-bomb is frikkin' ridiculous, though....I mean, c'mon!

You do sound like "Grumpy old fan" for a moment or two there. There's like a column at Robot 6 with a crazy title like that which I think of. You make me feel slightly guilty that I enjoy the Starlin characters so much nowadays for a second there. I paged through that #1 of the Thanos mini and wasn't crazy about the artist when he was on Thunderbolts but he seems better here. Maybe it's the colouring or I'm just

This week's dozen: ...
6. Black Widow HC ‘deadly origin’ [#1-4](2009)(Paul Cornell/Tom Raney/Scott Hanna + John Paul Leon)
8. Wolverine #900 (one-shot) 104 pages! David Finch cover • 11p (Marc Bernardin/Pow Rodrix/Derek Fridolfs)
I most definitely have to go HC trade ordering. I bought the first Cornell Black Widow and lost track of it. It would have been better to trade wait. That Bernardin story with the mutant power-cancelling average guy; I most definitely read at the Marvel Digital page a bunch of months ago, but I could have sworn Cebulski wrote it. Maybe he edited it? Meanwhile the spirit of what Rick said goes for me too, and not for the first time. Now onto the King ...

BWAHAHAHAAA!! I FORGOT your tweet about your "dick" comment! Having forgotten--it didn't hit me with offense. Why'd you apologize? "'cause you never know when you're going to fight green lantern" So, David, can you tell me why I think getting a chance to hang out with your father made a real nice difference with you this week? Both here and on 11 O'Clock Coms? I'm getting verklempt, but I just love hearing you talk about your time with him, and the things you guys did. I get a picture in my mind's eye; and I say, why not man? Enjoy your Pops! Can we has a picture? I want to see the upshift of genes. I bet he looks like a silver haired Timothy Dalton. Or Alan Ladd.

Why'd you apologize? Because I want to keep Marvel Noise as clean and "family friendly" as possible. I save my potty mouth for when the clock strikes 11 O'Clock.

Ahaaa. Does this go into the contributors' guidelines, or have all you guys just felt the family-friendly vibe and recorded accordingly? I admit, the first time I heard you go, "Ya know what I'm fukkin' drinkin'?" on 11 O'Clock Com, I realized that show was going to give us quite a different David to what I'd been used to. Guess I'm late to the memo.

David, I enjoyed hearing you wax eloquent on 'Avengers Forever'. You were able to very accurately capture just about all the reasons I haven't read this book yet. I bought the first 2 or 3 issues, then flatlined. Two Hanks, etc., was a bit much, and there was plenty other good Avengers action to enjoy elsewhere. Although you generated in me some interest, I still don't think I'm sold on giving this a read (unless a great deal pops up at a con or amazon error or somethin'!). Thanks for the well-played review!

C'mon, Alan! You really haven't noticed how we've all been on our best behavior all this time? I mean, except for Colonel Mooseblood. He's got a mouth like a sailor, which is why *I* do all the editing. I like her best when she is drawn with a tail...MEOW! Yeaaaah, I can definitely see the appeal there. MY preference has always been for Hepzibah from the Starjammers. Now, that's a good little kitty! Er, skunk? David, I enjoyed hearing you wax eloquent on 'Avengers Forever'. I was completely ignorant of Avengers Forever when it came out, along with any other Avengers title because I only read a small handful of titles in those days. I got A.F. as a trade last year and it was pretty decent. The only reason I was able to like it as much as I did was due to my expanding knowledge of the Avengers in recent years – partially due to my own reading – partially due to folks like David, Steve, Chris, et al.

Real proud of the kid. I played this episode for Colonel Mooseblood, and during the Smash Tales segment, he immediately recognized the music background as The Ramones' take on the Spider-Man theme. Smarty pants!

Since you deal with so much cosmic craziness I figured you would have had no problem following the series, would have read it, and enjoyed it by now. Plus the cosmic threads would have pulled you unless the Avengers continuity was too much. The dual Hanks was awesome, pulling characters from different times, Kang, tons of Cameo's I was sooo into the Avengers.

Thanks to everyone for another great episode. I can't get enough. As to specifics of this episode, I had forgotten about the "bring 'em back" segments. Those were good fun so a shout out to Mr. Loika for remembering the old eps. It was even less time for me as I fell so far behind on listening, so bad on me for forgetting. I am loving the look at '70s marvel. It is just before my time so it is a real education (not that I don't always learn something from every segment). Keep them coming. I was glad to see Mr. Raker spread some love on the Marvel Adventures line. I know they may be dismissed by some as all ages comics for babies but some of them are a pretty good read. Nothing wrong with some one and done fun without bullets, boobs and bad language. I have read some very prurient books in my day, don't doubt it true believers, but I can also just enjoy good clean comics. The digest form makes them handy quick reads and not too expensive (free at the library). I wish they were cheaper. Oh not just for me, I am thinking only of the children. I also got the Origins of Marvel Comics book and really enjoyed it. I think this is well worth the money but this is one more that I wish they had taken as a loss leader. I would have liked to see a $1.00 price on it and some heavy promotion. This is just the type of gateway book that I think could help new readers. I also think this is the type of thing that should be digital day and date as well. Or maybe you get it as a freebee if you buy a certain number of books that feature any of those characters. Like I said, I think it is worth the money but it just is a good way to really educate new people, not only to the characters but how many different art styles there are around. I like that it has so many different artists, maybe a new reader will see something that they like visually. If it was set up on-line as a dirt cheap book or free book digitally, they could then have easy links. You like this artist, click this link and it takes you to a bunch of their books, you like this character, click this link. It always amazes me how many artists aren't that good at self promotion. I will see some guy and it takes work to try to track down other books he/she worked one. I would think this type of stuff would be helpful but maybe I am dreaming. It just seems like this hobby is more about catering to the people already in it. I hadn't really heard of Avengers Forever, so maybe time for me to check it out, it fell within my lost decade of comics. You people always make every comic sound too good (what do I mean "you people"). I get this feed through itunes (of course I left a review which everyone should do) and sometimes directly through the web if itunes isn't handy. Is there a preferred way, oh makers of Marvel Noise? If there is some way that helps you (boosts ad revenues, cut costs, whatever), please let me know. I get some much fun out of this, the least I can do is pay it back if one way is better. The only thing that is kind of wonky about itunes is it treats all of the comic book noise family the same, and this may be controversial but clearly I do not feel all the podcasts on that channel are the same (Go Marvel Noise).

Great episode again guys (even you Old Man Raker) David, enjoyed your highlighting of Avengers Forever. I have only read one issue out of order. Would like to pick it up on sale. Thanks for pointing out the benefits of the hardcover. Any story that has double the Hank Pym qoutient is in my book. Cheers
