Damn, you guys are breaking from the thread's convention and busting this thing out; so if that's how it is, I'd have to say Charlton and EC are my TRUE LOVES!

I get one DC title, Final Crisis, and even if I love it I must give it to Marvel. Don't really know why, more than the familiarity of the Universe and the characters.

Chris, you are a Marvel guy in your heart, please be so kind and acknowledge that! Your favorite comics is Captain America, and not the Flash.

But by default, Marvel wins! In DC there isn't even one Pearl! Right? I know I'm right!

Wow.

Even I'd admit that there's a decent amount of good stuff coming out of Marvel.

If you base it on the Marvel Vs. DC crossover from the 90's I believe DC had more victories than Marvel...Yet Wolverine killed Lobo? Explain that one? Thinking

About as plausible as the Namor/Aquaman fight

Paraphrased:

Namor: "I am the Scion of Atlantis!!"
Aquaman: "Yeh, I did a lot of Sighin' in Atlantis!!"

Preach it, brother!

Here's the real question:

Harvey or Archie?

I think JimN summed up my reply to a tee...If Vertigo falls under DC's umbrella, I'm a DC man hardcore...if not, due to my love of Daredevil, I'd have to go Marvel...

Can't live without publishers...

I thought Marvel had more victories in that crossover. Either way, we all lost for reading that garbage. The 70s crossovers are much better reads.

Andru and Giordano drawing Superman and Spidey in the SAME BOOK?

Good thing I had a change of undies...

When I got back into comics a few years ago, I was reading mostly Marvel.  As I have continued with Marvel, I am not sure at this point if I am actually enjoying the comics as individual issues or just enjoying the progression of the continuity.  At this point if they were to relaunch the Avengers titles or Captain America with new writers I do not know if I would continue.  Obviously Criminal and some of the other genre books are out of the norm but I would love to see more of those types of books.

I have started to dabble into DC a bit, but it is slow going.  I latched onto 52 more than anything over the last few years, but with the amazing lineup of writers on that title, it is not fair to hold other books up to that standard.  The Vertigo books are clearly the DC titles that appeal to me most, but they are outside of DC proper.

For me, the top publisher is Image followed closely by Avatar.   The titles I get from them are always on the top of my stack every week.

I only buy DC (superhero books) in HC or TPB format now (Green Lantern & Batman being the only real heroes that I actively look to pick up) . . . Vertigo I put in it's own bracket as I am much more willing to try a new Vertigo book . . .

I just don't connect with their heroes . . . I actually hate Superman . . . I really liked the way he was used in Identity Crisis . . this presence that other heroes are in awe of, and that just doesn't work in a monthly book . . . I do have a lot of faith in the current writer James Robinson though . . I will probably check out the trade if it gets good reviews . . .

On the other end . .  I just love too many Marvel characters . . . I don't really which came first from the two companies but for me its:

Namor > Aquaman

Thanos > Darkseid

Punisher (Garth Ennis is a godsend) > Deathstroke (is that the right analogy ?)

But growing up reading Spider-Man, Hulk & Daredevil just had too great an effect on me. And the range of stories from simple things like Secret Wars as a Kid and then growing up and reading Millers Daredevil & Peter David's Hulk . .  it's just no contest for me . . .

I actually hate Superman

 Cry

I've read a LOT of Spider-man in my day. He was my favorite hero for a long, long time.

Older and (somewhat) wiser me wouldn't trade a single Superman comic for all the Spider-man books to date.

Love Spidey, but IMO he ain't nothin' when compared to Big Blue.

Big Blue am the BEST.

 Roll On Floor Laughing

No need to cry . . . Smiley

I just have a hard time with heroes that have power equal to gods being interesting month to month . . . the most interesting "Superman" style story I ever read was Astro City #1 (the original mini series)

Do you have any TPB or HC Superman books you would recommend to a jaded reader ?  Wink
