At the end of the movie?  You mean when the story is finished and we find out that someone spent 12 years in jail or their son was never found or they lived happily ever after?  No.  But the film is over.  That's not the case with Fantastic Four.  It's not over.  The next issue will be out in about 30 days.

Star Wars at the beginning?  Nope.  It's setting the stage.  I like the recap pages at the beginning of comics, too.

I get why people like them.  It's just that I don't.  That's all.

It is the end of the issue. I might not read the next issue. I think I've read like 3 or 4 of these and I've liked the ones I read. Since they were so spread out I like the text at the end cause I won't be reading the next one.

I'm commenting on the episode thus far:

1) Brightest Day- Its.So.Slow. I hear what Chris was saying on the series so far but its not really going anywhere for me. I wasn't buying this, just read the issues today up to 4, but what annoyed me the most was the third issue. I mean cmon, "Blackest Night Firestorm", and then nothing to follow? Once again, I'm reminded why I'm not reading a lot of DC at the moment other than the Return of Bruce Wayne.

2) Jonah Hex...I didn't need to think of anything else but a movie in another decade called Wild Wild West and maybe Warner should've thought about that film as it was being worked on as a "what not to do". Leone spaghetti western, is it really that DIFFICULT to do?

I think that's all I can chime on.

Calling David "Jew-y?" No thanks. Toolbag to the highest degree.

You don't like when we have guests? Cool, say so. But suggesting he wasn't speaking English? Calling David "Jew-y?" No thanks. Toolbag to the highest degree.

Wow. I did not even "get" that he was referring to Julian. I'm actually kinda pissed off now. What a shit-heel.
I took the Jew comment to be an incredibly awkward attempt at diving into the "buddy ribbing" pool with David, but it just made me squirm (and not in a good Curb Your Enthusiasm way). No

Finishing the second half up now and hitting the Jonah Hex talk...
 Huh?
Vince, you bitin' my rhymes?
I'm surprised Chris Kattan or Rob Schneider isn't in it as the comic relief.

I only am a little way through the episode but the first voicemail was just awkward.  It was an attempt to be cool, buddy, funny, and it failed worse than Jonah Hex at the box office.  I didn't like it and I wouldn't mind never hearing from this guy again but also, I'll never meet him and being angry would mean I actually care about what he had to say.

Otherwise, the only thing I have to comment on is my disappointment Vince went back to Pepsi Max.  I love listening to the end of an episode with tipsy Vince.

Yeah being told I don't speak english when a person has tried very hard to be facebook friend and randomly chatted with me on FB is kinda...

"Jew-y" is kinda ...

At least I have one more hater, that means I'm doing something right.

Yeah does that guy even post on the forums?  Because I want to start hating on him. Soapbox

As Darrel said yesterday it was like watching a car crash but he just kept calling. Anyway, enough hate. I’m off to the shop to pick up Bullet Proof Coffin and Shield #2 thanks to the show.

I stand with Vince on this Jonah Hex looks horrible. It reviewed horrible. It did horrible at the box office. There are toooooooo many good films to see out there to go spend your hard earned dollars on that. ou could use that to buy that new hardcover that came out. I liked Ghost Rider, you know it didn't seem any worse that the old 70s comic to me. Hell it had Peter Fonda in it. Also it had Eva Mendes looking so right as rain up in that film it should be wrong.
Eva>>Megan Fox

How do I know it's going to bad. Well to tell the truth the only people who see more films than me are film critics. I actually know some. Once you see a lot these things you can tell from a trailer what is going to be good and what is going to be bad and what is going to fucking terrible. Jonah Hex is one of those. The film making looks bad, the script from the trailer sounds bad, the stupid guns sound bad, Eli Whitney---REALLY?, Megan Fox looks like every  opinion people have of her in that movie, I don't like Malkovich in super ham mode, this movie is him in super ham mode. There are so many things that are warning signs that why go see it. Why waste that time. Cause it's comic based? Really? Really. I DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT FOR FREE. I saw Prince of Persia and that was so far for me the worst film of the year and it looks leagues above Hex. LEAGUES.

Ah that explains it. Prince of Persia is a video game based movie. You went to see it. Jonah Hex is a comic book based movie. I went to see it. 'Nuff said. lol. All good. But to your other points, I totally saw the trailer and thought "oh boy". But I don't let box office or critics sway me. I may have walked out of there going - well, I won't get those $7 bucks back - but I saw a movie in the theatre by myself. That was all worth it.  Tongue

But see? Like you pointed out to me on twitter - you know there's going to be a Prince of Persia 2. And you gave them fodder for it.  Wink

I like his smart-ass, hard-ass, bad-ass nature, and I like it when it feels genuine, instead of like someone's pokin' fun at it. You can still do that in a humorous or playful setting (Lansdale did a great job of this, and Palmiotti and Gray have done this from time to time as well), but for the most part, Hex to me is the guy who scares away the pretty girls, not gets them. He doesn't have an ounce of charm, and he's a true misanthrope... Warren Ellis, but real ugly on top of it. Maybe it's a lot to ask that I get that from a movie preview, and maybe the flick honestly delivers... I just didn't get that impression, and I'm not in a big rush, is all.  Cheesy

I dunno. Some of that sounds like stuff you're putting on the character, not that's actually backed up by the comics (or wherever your exposure of the character is from). Plenty of comics where he gets the girl. Plenty of comics were he charms someone. I think this: "I like it when it feels genuine" - is really where most people fall - and certainly where Vince and David on the ep fell in regards to the trailer. But that had more to do with their perceived expectations of what they "think" they should see, probably from the recent Hex comics (although he gets the girl often enough in that series as well). All good. Thanks for the response! It'll be interesting to see what other people say are "Jonah Hex" elements.

I am not going to see Jonah Hex in the theater, but I haven't ruled out seeing it on DVD. I agree with many that the trailers didn't do a great job of selling the movie (and the week one -- lack of -- box office tell us that's a majority view), but I also see Peter's point in that I don't see anything in this trailer that's any more out of whack with Hex's LONG history in publishing than what we saw in other superhero trailers.

See, for me it wasn't so much the changing of the history that made me not see it. It just looked like a real bad movie to me. I was trying to put my finger on why, but I couldn't quite figure it out. It's just one of those things though that I can feel in my gut.  Whaaaat

Not sure if anyone mentioned this (I'm at work and don't have time to read all the comments)...

I can't remember where I heard (or read this), but Herb Trimpe changed his style on purpose in the 90s because he welcomed the challenge. I may have seen/heard it in an interview but he may have told me himself. I met him a couple of times at conventions in Florida in the last couple of years.

Quote
I've been asked that question before, with some fans going so far as to feel sorry for the way Marvel made me change my style. Unfortunately, these were misdirected sympathies.

Truth was, it was a lark--but a lark with a purpose, all devised by myself. No one at Marvel suggested I change the way I draw or ink. I looked at the new guys' stuff, and thought, hey, this is great. Very exciting. You can always learn from somebody else, no matter how long you've been doing a thing.

I did, however, think the style might lead to new work at a time when Marvel was already in trouble, and it did. FF Unlimited was my last series at Marvel, and contrary to what a lot of fans think, I think it was the best work I'd done--and, I had a whole lot of fun doing it. Very expressive. I think the newer influences in comic book art brought out a better me. Like I said, most of the fans of the earlier stuff would not agree. On one occasion, I inked a whole story with a brush, which is what I was raised on, and the editor objected asking me not to do that anymore. But in general, no one pressured me into a change.

Oh, and I love giving Vince crap for mispronunciations, but Asgard can be pronounced both ass-guard and az-guard.
