Uh, this was completely and thoroughly resolved an hour ago, dude. If you were seeking to lecture me, you're a little late to the party.
Let's turn course here...anything that we talked about reading on the show really working for you? Or maybe isn't up your alley?

With respect to the "Doctor Who" discussion, I have thoroughly enjoyed the episodes I have seen so far (everything up to and including "The Lodger." I thought the best episodes of the seasons were the two involving the Weeping Angels, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a big payoff to the scene involving the Doctor's jacket. It was initially written off by most folks as a continuity error, but it seems increasingly likely that Moffat is pushing towards a well-executed explanation... an idea that is echoed by Vince in his comments about how well-crafted the season has been... so I'm hopeful to say the least.
I never never not enjoyed "Doctor Who" but this season has been, by far, the best of the new series, and as good as any of the former series. While I always enjoyed what RTD did, its clear that Moffat is not taking the intelligence of the viewers for granted. Subtle clues have been laid out in every episode this season so as to quietly, steadily build up to a nice conclusion. Its a bit of a contrast from previous years when (for the most part) the Doctor would go about his business for 10 or 11 episodes and then the sh*t would hit the fan right at the end of the season.

In your estimation, has the show's special effects budget increased over the years? I was really taken out of it because of that, but I hear as the show gains (or regains) popularity so too has their SFX budget. Is that a legit contention?

Let's turn course here...anything that we talked about reading on the show really working for you? Or maybe isn't up your alley? Since you ask, I quit listening after the 20 minute mark of the episode, because I didn't dare having any more of the episode spoiled for me. I'll likely revisit it later in the day and will just fast forward 10 minutes or so, so as to not risk spoiling anything more. That said, you'll see that while you were typing, I offered some thoughts on Doctor Who. So that counts, I suppose. Otherwise, I always enjoy the banter (including Chris nearly committing hara-kari every time Vince tells him that he's drinking Peppi Mac) what you guys have to offer, even if its not something I'm reading. You've turned me on to multiple books in the past... "I Kill Giants," "Bad Dog," "The Walking Dead," "Seven Soldiers of Victory," etc... the list goes on and on. Some of these books I've loved ("I Kill Giants," "The Walking Dead"), others not so much. But I always appreciate the heads-up and thoughtful criticism that you guys provide.

The FX do get better, but things like the Daleks and Cybermen are still tied to their old look (for obvious reasons) and the FX will never look as good as, say, BSG. It's just a much smaller market, so budgets are smaller.

Whatever, dude. As you know full well, my comment was not a "f*ck you" in reply to anything you said about my "involvement and thoughtful debate." It was in response to the unnecessary lecture from you an hour after the situation was resolved to Wood's apparent satisfaction. Consider that strike 2 if you like.

I'm certain that the budget has increased over the years... both in terms of inflation and in terms of the percentage of the show's budget that is allocated towards effects. The effects are pulled off with varying degrees of success, but for me they've never done much to increase or hinder my appreciation of the show. The best episode of this season ("The Time of Angels") was fairly effects-heavy, but so was the worst episode ("Victory of the Daleks"). In a nutshell, I don't think anyone watches Doctor Who for the effects, but I don't know of anyone who has necessarily been "pulled out" of the show as a result of the effects, either. If you are looking to give the program another shot, I'd advise starting with the Eccleston run and catching up from there. Its a lot of episodes to get through, but I think that if you just start with the Matt Smith episodes, you won't fully appreciate the diversity of the three actors who've played him since the series was resuscitated, nor will you fully appreciate how cleverly Moffat and Smith made the transition from the RTD/Tennant era.

Touching tribute to Harvey Pekar, guys. Still only about halfway through the episode, but this one's a lot of fun so far. Good 'n loose.

I thought the Lizard creatures from the center of the earth were pretty fantastic looking. I haven't been taken out of any of the episodes by any sub-par looking cg.

And nicely updated, too. Although they took care to mention that this was a slightly different sub-species of Silurians than the ones the Doctor had encountered previously, using the old Silurian 70's look as the battle mask design was a neat touch.
