ill pass, but i added Mario Bava's Danger: Diabolik! to my queue
My all-time favorite "superhero" (or anti-hero) movie.
It gets panned, but I think Bava made a great comment on the time ('68) and pop art/style-as-content, plus Morricone's psych-lounge Euro-pop soundtrack is the tits.

Oh, and, Marisa Mell Hearts made me want to rob a bank and get a rotating a bed.  Yes

PAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Roll On Floor Laughing Oh my god. I just got to the bit where you can hear Chris sleep-breathing and then the snoring. THIS IS FUCKING BRILLIANT

Maybe it was a conceptual performance art piece commenting on how we all sleep-walk through life?

Loving the show!

Hellboy En Mexico: Mignola can do no wrong with Hellboy and having Corben back is comicbook gold! I would love to have him back again again and again on hellboy.

If you haven't read it yet, check out Hellboy: Crooked Man

That's a great story.  The way Corben draws the title character gives me the heebie-jeebies.  Creepiest hellboy villain ever.  Yes

The simple answer is because I didn't notice. My issue, after we hashed it out on the show, was just how noticeable it was and how -- IMHO -- it didnt serve the story. I now realize that I read comics with stat shots in them all the time, but it just doesn't register with me. When it does, though, it usually takes me a bit out of the story.

I remember when you discussed the use of stat shots in the context of  the Bendis Avengers comic (and the ensuing discussion on the forum), but  I didn't realize that it was you talking about iZombie. I thought that David was calling Allred out simply for using a stat in the book (and then mentioned it as one of your pet peeves and that he had issues with it in iZombie). It didn't bother me and I thought it was an appropriate use of stat shot. So I was poking David a bit (I still loves ya, DAP!) because of the implied unilateral implication that stat shots are bad.

I didn't realize that you didn't like Allred's use of it in the most recent issue, either.

I agreed with you guys about the use of it in that Bendis Avengers comic, but respectfully disagree with you and David about it in iZombie.

But damn that show was awesome in the second and third seasons.  It wasn't nearly as good in the final season or movie imo, but still some great sci fi.
Exactly. Second and third seasons of Farscape are sci-fi gold.

In your estimation, has the show's special effects budget increased over the years? I was really taken out of it because of that, but I hear as the show gains (or regains) popularity so too has their SFX budget. Is that a legit contention?

Sorry for coming late on this but I do live on the other side of the world...had to sleep. The BBC in the last year or so took a huge budget cut from the British Government. As a roll on effect, Doctor Who, even though one of its highest rating series, had a budget cut of what I believe is 10%. That said, this new series looked absolutely glorious! Shot in HD, the design, lighting, FX and direction were ramped up a notch and the result is astounding. I defy anyone to show me a more beautiful looking show. Unlike a lot of FX heavy shows, where Doctor Who doesn't have the money, they definitely make up for it in the WRITING to disguise this fact. Two things though:

1: Did everyone else get the heavy Steven Spielberg vibe of the last two episodes? (Close Encounters and Raiders)

2: Jason you've got to watch the last two episodes of season four...it's Final Crisis done on a TV budget and done very, very well. It's mad, it's big, it's bold. Grant Morrison couldn't have done better  Thumbs Up

Also, very quickly, thanks for a great episode, guys!

It's so easy to get pulled away from drawing to respond to something when I disagree and it's easy to forget to point out the good stuff. I apologize for my oversight.

Thanks for the entertaining me!

A chaotic and borderline contentious episode births a chaotic and borderline contentious episode thread. Wink

That show had crazy energy.  You guys walk the line better than any comic book podcasters I know between a professional, organized show and a spontaneous, passionate free for all.  Much  Hearts  I'll be honest though, Vince: that beer did some weird voodoo to you, man, and it wasn't altogether pretty.   Undecided

I said I appreciated your involvement and thoughtful debate, and you come back with this bullshit?

Consider this strike one.

I have no issues in banning people, but Vince frowns on my quick trigger finger.

It's okay, Chris.  I'm cranky when I wake up sometimes too.  Wink

I don't want to reopen any wounds, but I do want to welcome MisterWinter to the forum.  You seem like a intelligent and thoroughly reasonable dude; it was just bad timing that you wanted to debate an interesting topic that had been talked to death just a couple of weeks ago.  I hope you'll stick around...this really is a place (in no small part due to the open-mindedness of our hosts) where a free exchange of ideas and a lively debate is both commonplace and welcome.

Thanks Farrell. You know, last night's episode FELT a little better than usual, which is to say amazing b/c every episode feels damn good. We were just riffing, lots of organic back and forth.

Poked AND loved!  I feel the warmth!!

 Cheesy

I'll have to go back and listen because I didn't think I was poo-pooing Allred for the stat shot.  I was just mentioning that he used it and it was noticeable.  Had he varied the lines of the graveyard crew it probably wouldn't have registered with me, but with the heavier line of the mourners and casket in the foreground and the thinner lines (because they appear shrunken) of the crew in the background, it stood out.

I recognize the reasons for any artist to use the tool (or "trick" as the term I used).  And because of the way the story moves to open the book it makes sense to use the tool here.  When I noticed the same image three times on one page I thought of Wood (as opposed to the other times during the day when I think of Wood).

It was the lettering on things like the sign for Dixie's Firehouse or the awning of The Whilamut or Dukohnee's driver's license that I more or less have a problem with.  The sound effects are neat, the word balloons and the words inside look good, but then I get to a nice drawing and it looks like someone stuck the page in a typewriter and it looks kind of flat.

But the art?  Can't beat it.

I'll try to listen to the I, Zombie talk tomorrow to find out if I went too far in expressing any minuscule dislikes I have.
