I finally completed my Savage Dragon run. I was up to about issue 30, but I'm now ready to read the entire run in single issue form. Yes!

Big honkin' karma for that. Thanks, Vince. It was you talking about Savage Dragon on the BBP that really piqued my interest. I bought the original mini and I was hooked. Now I'm a Larsen fanatic. I can't thank you enough. Just incredibly super fun comics that make you feel like you felt reading comics at that young age when they were sheer magic. ---------------- I will have to agree with you on the Howling Commandos art, Wood. I was originally excited at the premise and I wanted to like that book but I perused the first issue and the art just made me go, "Hunh?"

Damn. Well, Wood, I guess we could have sat this one out. Nothing personal David . I still enjoy the four-man talk but this was the "atypical" episode. Count in the fact that being away and MIA on the funnybooks means that I got no taste of the Mayhew goodness you and Chris mentioned which is a bummer! Ah well...I still love the Jewish brutha no matter what. I'll listen to the ep again and give more comments if it makes you feel better Tonight's roll call is a Wasabi-coke(from a chinese restaurant earlier tonight). Might as well call it, "Sunfire"...

Once again thank you for the show.
-Simpin’ on some Japanese plum win - just something to chill on as I’m doing grunt work shifting content to a new website., which let me tell you is just wonderfully fun doing it manually.
- As I in the other thread, a lot of the early image stuff is subject to hyperbole now that may balance out the fervor they created in the beginning, but there is some solid work here and I just dig individual work and when I think of stuff like Maxx - it’s what you get with creative freedom, something like nothing else out there.
- Tan did Spawn, and he also did X-Men - I have some random OA from him because it had Night Crawler, Polaris and Havoc on the same page (favorites of mine)
- Hope to read the Revelations stuff soon - Spectre is one of my favorite charactesr. Mandrake and Ostrander had an underrated run and even beyond that, really cool Adventure covers from the 70’s and all-time classic More Fun covers
- Wood, keep on spitting sense about Final Crisis, I’m not sure why he has to keep repeating himself. It’s, on an isolated level (no blanket statements) seems like one of the most paranoia inducing comics in sometime. It’s odd to me that it is polarizing as for me it’s so solid it’s at worse just average - at worse it’s a competently written new adventures in the DCU and without going on about the accessibility aspect , I think it works as a very simple “shit is going down, and the big III - perhaps the only character one knows - are taken off the board” - whose steppn’ up to handle the mystery? I just don't get the difficulty that the read presents, it's just all odd to me as people are finding problem that they didn't know would exist if they weren't on the net and they just read the story and find out for themselves (which is the point of reading, I gather). You shouldn't read any fiction, or rather no quality fiction is a reaffirmation of expectations (as with such a large audience that's a low target). I gave this to a friend of mine who doesn't read comics just to help name tackle the idea, and though he knows nothing beyond Superman, Batman, and Robin, he's able to follow the story and broke it down (as it's a comic, and he's a functional adult). Morrison is dealing with very basic archetypes that is plain to see without having to know the identities or intricacies, or history of the Kirby Pantheon, and it began from the very first pages with the whole prometheus deal. People are acting they like they have been thrown in some Maze built by Kafka and Bruno Schultz - the story IMHO has been alarmingly very easy to follow to this point and simply offers more to those who may know more. The one (perhaps meta) carry over from Countdown is the idea of a chess board - The King, Queen, and the Dark Knight have been taken off the board - what pawns will reach the other side and replace them? Please don not take this as 'no right to hate" I completely understand anybody who understands what's going on and simply despises the story, but at some point their is something called reader responsibility . Some of you guys are reading Amercian Gods now, if you know nothing about Norse mythology (and others) you may not get the full story, but you cold know nothing and follow the story and even enjoy it completely as while all the theeads have several pages even books of histories related to them - the archetype shines through.
- Wood, that Countdown to Infinite Crisis book - Days of Vengeance- they were talking about is a pretty fun stuff, and sets up Shadowpact and the DCU Magic landscape quite well - Chris, one of my cousins that freeloads here styles herself a french aristocrat in waiting and you brought tears to her eyes with your French.
- No more McFarlane hating - he’s a pimp!
I apologize for the bullets point style, and hope it doesn’t come off the wrong, I just listen to the show several times and I catch different threads each time as I’m usually zoning in and out in my 11 o’clock-fueled procrastination.
Thanks again!

RE: X-MEN ORIGIN: JEAN GREY #1 It is a beautifully illustrated book...and you can definitely see how it was originally going to be a "Mythos" book. And I was only mildly distracted by trying to figure out who Mayhew modeled Jean after... I figured out young Jean: But like I said, it was a beautiful looking book -- and you can't go wrong with McKeever.

I finally completed my Savage Dragon run. I was up to about issue 30, but I'm now ready to read the entire run in single issue form. Yes!
I have most of the collection (up until the last three issues), which I'd give you a really good price on if you are interested. Not a vendor, just someone who got really sick of the book's direction. I'd go on, but if you haven't read it yet, I don't wanna spoil anything.

Thanks for the offer ricksmash, but alas, you are too late. What I meant was that I had READ up to about issue 30, but I only had four scant issues to go before I completed purchasing the entire run, which I just recently did. Maybe someone else on the boards will want to take you up on the offer. I know Vince would be the first to recommend the incredible deal that the Savage Dragon Archives represent, but I'm all about the singles. I like to read a story with all the ads and letters pages so it transports me back to the time when it was first published. Thanks for not spoiling. I've heard rumblings, so have some idea of the fairly radical things that Erik starts to do with the book later on in the run, but I'm not put off. I'm ready to dig in.

I was struck by Mayhew's rendering of young Jean's expressions and nothing about it nagged "familiar" to me. Plus, Mayhew's version is 1000x's more pretty than Miley. New teeth or not. Sorry Miley.

Re-listened this time... Just wood-iano- if there was a bigger art-turnoff than any of the periods combined, you couldn't have picked a better choice. I dunno why Howling Commandos got such a big hype for being a lackluster from the start. I remember reading one issue with disgust. Not a lot of books have done that. HC and Batman: War Drums are the worst offenders in the history of my collection of comics. As for FC, good points mentioned. I'm still reading some hateration based on that " Countdown should've had some tie-ins if not all"...Wah-wah, it's issue 3 and why haven't some people got that figured out? There was a newsarama interview with Morrison on DC and if people are still missing THAT point, no apologies but that book was not made for them. Stop wasting your money then and move on, no?David- I saw some points with J.G.J., I shared that opinion but more towards Wanted. I dunno if it's just being Millar'd out at this point, but his art felt a tad stale, as if it read like the same thing going through the entire book. Under Morrison's guidance, I felt like he stands out a lot better, art-wise and narrative. Good on ya to bring it up tho. Arright. Countdown to Fanexpo...but otherwise, great episode with the second listen. and Chris, your french wasn't so weak, you just need a little tweaking. Of course someone could pull out a little A-ha song for good measure if that helps, hehe.
