Hey, guys. Long time listener, first time etc.

Allow me to weigh in on the Final Crisis thing if I could. As a rule, I don't buy "event" comics, but I saw the Director's Cut, with unlettered/uncolored art and Morrison's script. Always fascinated by the process, I bought it along with issue #1 thinking that if I really enjoyed it I'd pick up the rest of the series and if not they could just sit on the shelf with my ToMorrows books and things like that.

I read through issue #1 and was mildly baffled by a few things. I then read the script and had any confusion totally cleared up. Now, I happen to think that JG Jones can draw like an MF'er, but comparing the script to the art has shown me that he is not a great storyteller. It's one thing if Morrison's script had indicated that certain things were meant to be obtuse or little easter eggs to be found after rereading it, but more than once as I was reading the script I found myself thinking "Oh, so that's what I was supposed to get from this panel!" If Jones had layed the panel out differently or frankly, just followed instructions, certain things would have been much clearer.

So I find myself debating whether or not to get on board the Crisis train. JG sure draws him some purty pitchers, but without Grant's scripts available every month to clear up the storytelling problems, I dont know If I want to come along for this ride. Maybe I'll pick up #2 and give him one more chance...

Thanks, folks - the show is great.

p.s. - live versions of "The Torture Never Stops" are waaay better than the "Zoot Allures" version!

RE: X-MEN ORIGIN: JEAN GREY #1

It is a beautifully illustrated book...and you can definitely see how it was originally going to be a "Mythos" book.

And I was only mildly distracted by trying to figure out who Mayhew modeled Jean after...

I figured out young Jean:

I guess my question with this would be the timing...the images are similar, but that Cyrus image was only taken a few months ago...I thought this book had been in the works for over 18 months?
But like I said, it was a beautiful looking book -- and you can't go wrong with McKeever. Thumbs Up

That's just the pic I used for this example -- I'm sure there's older pics that would fit even better but I didn't want to sift through hundreds of google pages. Roll Eyes  And since HANNAH MONTANA started in 2006, using her pic as reference may not have been so obvious back then.

Also, if McKeever turned the script in 18 months ago, who knows when these pages were actually created.

Okay?  I tried to tell 'em! Cheesy

Miley's got creases at her mouth and nose/cheek, and the painted Jean does not.  Miley's got a weak chin, and the painted Jean does not.  Miley's got a cauliflower nose, and the painted Jean does not.  Miley's eyebrows are blunt, and the painted Jean's are perfectly tapered.  Miley's cute, the painted Jean is GORGEOUS.

If you listen to the interview we did on AC about 2 weeks ago you'll hear that Mike hired two models to use for photo referencing.

The fact that he went through the trouble and personal expense to hire models of the correct age is a good thing. Like Dan said, these are NOT copied photo references.

Yep, look at Starman.  A LOT of that stuff is photo referrenced.  Later in the run, Harris even gives credit to his models.  You wouldn't think any of the stuff in that book was photocopied.  Some of the Ex Machina stuff on the other hand...   Whistle

I just read the first Ex-Machina hardcover. You would never guess it's the same artist who did Starman.

I'm jealous!  Seeing him now, I can totally see him styling himself as Jack Knight more than I could based on pictures of him when the series was coming out.
