hey guys,
so from time to time, i join the project rooftop contest/art jam thingee. this month's theme was captain america. if you are unfamiliar with rooftop, people (pros, amateurs) send in character redesigns for existing comic characters. from time to time they have contests.

i thought i'd participate for shits n giggles, but i started on the pic too late. i wish i had more time to refine the design.

i figure everybody's gonna riff off he traditional superhero cowl look. i thought i'd change things up and go for a more casual, civilian look. bucky's wearing a motorcycle jacket; one of those armored jobs people riding crotch rockets use. buck uses an energy shield mounted/housed in his bionic arm (which is on the wrong arm in the pic).

Yeah, Mike, i did an entry myself for the Captain America contest. I posted it as the 'Truth in Vietnam' thread here in the forum: http://bullpenbulletinspodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=9033.0.

i like your redesign. Looks really hip and fashion-y, which is what Project Rooftop really favors. I'm digging the jacket a lot. Good luck!

daaaammmn yooouuuu!
that sound you hear is my palm hitting my face. BRILLIANT design sir. one of those no brainers ideas 99.9% of people miss (me most of all).

thank you for your kind words regarding my entry. having entered PR contests twice, i am very familiar with their... quirks. Cheesy i kinda hit a wall coming up with a concept. all i kept thinking up were variations on the usual superhero fare so i kept putting it off.
thanks again.

That's a sweet design too.  I love these alternate takes on costumes.

Mike,

I had to laugh because it's totally true about those 'quirks'. I think anybody would have a better shot of placing if you just drew Scott Pilgrim-style with fringes and high-heeled boots. You already know how Project: Rooftop do! LOL!

'Preciate your words on my entry too, sir! Even though I will never place because I don't draw like that, it is fun and stretches your art muscles in a good way. I'll keep entering these things.

By the way, what was your previous entry for P:R, Mike?

Inazuma Tiger-  yeah, i like it when they get pros (who work/have worked on the character) to judge. you can see where they're coming from and where the regular judges are coming from. the pro thinks of style and practicality, while the regular judges just think style.

my previous entries were:
batman...

... and wolverine

the site they feature seems pretty cool: http://superherococo.blogspot.com/
they have a redesign for skeletor (deadline aug. 15)
