One of the keys to making this work where Bullpen Bulletins stopped working is to keep it as organic and serendipitous as possible. Generally it's going to be the four of us pulling up a chair, sitting around our computers and taking an hour out of our weeks to chat comics and center ourselves from the rest of our structured lives. By nature, I think it's impossible to think we'll be entirely positive OR prohibitively negative. Since I think I speak for all four of us in saying that we enjoy a lot more comics we read than not, I would hope that, most episodes, we're going to be MOSTLY about the positivity.

Everyone knows you have always been one of our strongest supporters over the years. Pat's always been there dropping the love since BEFORE day one. However, there have been TWO instances where you have made it clear that you were less-than-pleased with our offerings: (1) the Captain Marvel Return show where we presented listeners' comments on the controversial one-shot (most of them were very negative) and (2) my comments about silly Skrulls.

Coincidence? I think not. You LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOVE Marvel. Admit it. Wink

And you know I would NEVER fail the Awesome Sauce.

Unless I already have, in which case I will never fail the Awesome Sauce AGAIN!

I'm not a fan of negativity in general...and I am an unabashed Marvel fan. AND an unabashed fan of comics in general. Hell, I love Wild Dog, for God's sake.

I read Avengers/Invaders tonight...let's just say Ross should stick to illustrating and Sadowski should stick to writing! Smiley

What's the big stink? There's no more bashing here than at any comic book store on a Wed. I thought it was a classic comics discussion, grown men arguing over the believability of alien armies and men in tights!
It was funny!
As far as I'm concerned, the 11:00 comics guys have more than proven they know their shit. They can be anyway they want to be. I'm lovin' it.

Avengers/Invaders
Oh, yeah [/smacks head].

I have a couple theories about that, though.

For what it's worth, I saw the pencils by Sadowski in NYCC, they were absolutely beautiful.  I believe this guy's work is getting totally butchered by this trendy "Paint-like coloring".  It's a real shame.

Loved the show! I say make them as long as you can, I need more than an hour a week.

This is my first major event summer with Secret Invasion and Final Crisis, I can only talk about what I have seen so far, and in my opinion the fact that Bendis has been planting seeds for this since Avengers: Disassembled blows my fucking mind! Seriously! That is insane, and seeing the "pay off" is very exciting for me. This may be completely due to the fact that i dont have "event fatigue" like all you seasoned vets that have been in the trenches of comics for years. But damn I am having a great time reading Secret Invasion, and am super hyped for Final Crisis!

House of Mystery was great, I was very satisfied by the large story interupted by the 4 page story, it felt like I got some pay off for my 3 bucks

I'm with you on all fronts Penguin!

Bendis promised us that every reveal would make sense and you could look back and see that there WERE hints right in front of your face very step of the way if we knew to look for them. I think this may be one of the crowning achievements by a superhero mainstream writer in ages when all is said and done. Vince be damned!  Express Tongue

Anyone think that the fan sentiment from that book prompted how the character was handled in the recent Captain Marvel mini?  I'd like to think so...

I'm in agreement with Dave, plus I always thought that the biggest thing that contributed towards the end of the BBP was the Vince didn't feel comfortable enough talking about other non-Marvel books that he was digging on a Marvel-centric show?

I say just let the conversations flow, most of them will be love sharing anyway; if you're going to bitch about a comic, then you turn around and buy the next issue anyway, you deserve what you get.

Pat is Mr. Positivity and that's cool. Doesn't mean he's right or that it's going to effect how we do the show, BUT I appreciate his perspective and think it's always important to have a voice like Pat reminding us how easily it is to turn into a whiny fanboy podcast; which we don't want to be.

2 things.

Chris Samnee is a stud, and Pat is an even bigger stud for getting a Wild Dog sketch from him!

I agree that we need to stay as positive as possible. That's how I've always approached AC, and it's what comics need. That said, this show is very much about being an organic conversation. We just sit back and bs. It's what makes it real and interesting (i hope). The downside to that is we're going to be more inclined to call out something we don't like. I think it's OK as long as we get different sides of the opinion. For every second of Vince and I bashing, Wood and David were defending. I thought that was awesome.

My feelings about comics are more in line with Pat , but in the four episodes so far, I have really enjoyed the direction and the personalities. It's somewhere between The McLaughlin Group and The ViewWink

I kid.

Honest, four very smart individuals talking about my favorite hobby. What's not to like?

Word, Wood!  Not wanting to turn into a whiny fanboy is one of the reasons that Episode 4 of my podcast is kind of delayed.  I have to find some way to talk about Starman #6 without saying "worst issue ever!"   Grin

The was the first time I have seen Sadowski's work as I haven't read JSA.  I heard he's a fine penciler.
I miss inkers...

You guys are gonna LOVE next week's New Avengers.

Anyone think that the fan sentiment from that book prompted how the character was handled in the recent Captain Marvel mini?  I'd like to think so...
It is possible.  There was already a changeup in the creative team from The Return to the mini, so it just may be.

Chris Samnee is a stud, and Pat is an even bigger stud for getting a Wild Dog sketch from him!
Hear, hear!!

It was a great give and take.  I had a blast.

And I agree with you on staying positive.  It's one of the many things that attracts me to AC.  And there are plenty of other places to see negativity in and about comics.

Honest, four very smart individuals talking about my favorite hobby. What's not to like?
Thank you, sir!
