www.imdb.com/title/tt1270798/
Maybe IMDB is wrong, but this is the character list for the movie.

Found some more pics.

Yep, that's the character list. Which is why I made the point this film is NOT about the original five X-men. The only original member of the 5 that is in this film is Hank "Beast" McCoy. No Iceman, no Angel (well, there's an Angel but it's the teen female version from Morrison's run), no Cyclops (at least not that we know of yet) and no Jean.

Okay, now I'm clear.  See the X-Men uniforms I was referring to?  That's kind of cool now that I can tell Havok's costume even has that middle concentric circle on the chest like in the comics (even though I never understood the circle in the comics).  And yeah, I was right about Angel, so that's cool.

And okay, the devil-looking guy is NAMED Azazel. Surely he will have something to do with the Hellfire Club. Being all demony?

Another cool thing is that I can see how this ties in with the movie franchise, although a huge departure from the comics.  If Banshee is here, then we clearly know it's his daughter Siryn displaying her powers in X2 when Stryker's goons rushed the mansion.  Alex Summers is clearly an older brother and through him we'll probably have Xavier take the much younger Scott and raise him (to be the mewly poon he turns out to be in the movies).  The cast list includes DARWIN, properly named Armando Munoz, and even in the comics he was supposed to have been an X-Man BEFORE the Storm & Nightcrawler set.  So that's cool.  And since there's a young Erik and Raven cast, I guess those two came to Charles together and so it would make sense for them to leave together before X1.  Which makes it even more effed up to see what Erik does to her in X3, and subsequently in X3 what she does to him. No honor among thieves, I tell you!

Shades of 1999!  THIS is the kind of speculation I did on messageboards back before the first X-Movie came out.

Where I FIRST coined the term "New Mutant."  Welcome to history, ladies & gentlemen.

Damn. 12 years ago.

Damn.

Do you think this will confuse non comic fans. I already have people coming and tryng to figure out what this movie is about. Even non comic fans have a basic understanding of who the X-men are and those that have seen the movie are trying to figure out what this is. I'm having trouble explaining the complexity of this in relation to the other three movies. When I just tell them it's a new vision of the X-men (to simplify) they seem to think it's lame from the go.

Between this and the fuck you reboot of a 10 year old Spider-Man movie, I'm getting the feeling from my public of peeps that they have no interest in this or another Spider Man origin movie.

You?

Don't tell them it's a re-imaginging. It's going to be the X-Men that existed back when Charles had hair and before the Beast had fur.  Scott and Jean may not even have been born in this movie, but there's his brother. (Or maybe ... father??)

and 2) OH! Angel is being played by Zoe Kravitz??? That's Lisa Bonet & Lenny Kravitz' kid!!!

Holy crap.

I know right! Talk about feeling old...Lenny and Lisa's kid, is playing a mutant. It's a HELLA good cast though, top to bottom these folks can ACT. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing Winter's Bone, you have missed out on one of the most powerful acting performances of the year by Jennifer Lawrence. And Rose Byrne  Hearts is magical in Damages, MAGICAL!

She's one of the things I like least about the show.  Although, admittedly, I'd most likely enjoy her more if she looked like she might eat a damn sammich from time to time.

Don't get me wrong, I don't find her attractive. She and Glenn Close need to eat up in that piece. But I think the whole show is so amazingly acted. I think she's sometimes done in by the extremity of her role (always bouncing from place to place), and the fact that she has to share a screen with powerhouses like Close and Hurt and Sheriff Bullock. I was worried there for a second.

I love these pictures. I love the production design and the overall 60's-ness of it and how grounded in reality it looks. I just think it looks clasy indeed.

 Yes
As someone who has never really been into the X-Men universe, I am really looking forward to this movie!

I've come to accept and really anticipate this movie. Produced and story-by Bryan Singer, directed by Vaughan, telling the origin story of Singer's version of the X-Men. I'm interested in that.

Stoked to see Rose Byrne playing Moira, too! I know her mostly from 28 Weeks Later, Sunshine, and I THINK Troy -- great actress.

It'll be funny watching her, a native of Ireland I believe, playing a scot alongside James MacAvoy, a scotsman playing a brit.

Just not my type, guys.  Sorry.  In an earlier thread (I think it was attached to an episode) I posted some of the women that warrant a second (and seventh and eighth) look from me.

(I thought it was Ellen Page in the photo where they're all looking up and past the camera.  Reminds me of her in the second image Jeremy posted, too)

As DAP noted, Rose Byrne needs to be introduced to the concept of a sammich. What you're not seeing in those pics is the rib cage, the bony hips, and the bird legs that make skinny jeans look like parachute pants.  Lips Sealed

I'm the comic book guy who hates comic book movies, but I just want to say that I loooove that this is a period piece. I get the reasoning behind it, but I hate that every super hero movie has to take place in some imaginary present day.

I'd be thrilled to see a Fantastic Four movie set in the 60s, or a Batman noirish movie set in the 30s. While I may not have much interest in the X-Men film franchise, I really hope First Class is a hit.

Allow me to speak on behalf of mutants everywhere when I say thank you.

I'm with you guys, given the pedigree of these actors -- not to mention Matthew friggin Vaughn fer cryin' out loud -- I'm not sure how this movie can do badly.  All my doubts (and I did have quite a few) have been removed.

Now just someone please make sure Sebastian Shaw has actual powers, and that Emma does not turn into diamond? Kthxbai.
