Review: Marvel Adventures: Hulk #13

Move over Marvel Zombies, the Marvel Mummies are the new monsters in town! Upon arriving in New York City, Dr. Banner, Rick Jones and their pet lab monkey affectionately named Monkey finds the streets deserted and the buildings boarded up. Trying to find some sign of life in the empty streets, the three travelers stumble across a team of New York’s finest. However, the officers are “wrapped up” in their own little problem. Something, or someone, has turned them into mummies! The mummies give chase in an attempt to destroy the three heroes in the name of the Living Pharaoh. Banner transforms into the Hulk just as the mummies overtake them giving Rick and Monkey time to escape. But before the two can make it to safety they run into Captain America, who we find is also transformed into a walking bandage dispenser along with more of Marvel’s greatest heroes including Thor, the Silver Surfer and the Fantastic four! With no other help in sight it’s up to the Hulk, Rick and Monkey to find the source of all the mayhem before they find their self’s sporting the latest in mummy summer fashion! Can the Hulk hold off Marvels most powerful mummified heroes? Can Rick and Monkey solve the mystery before it’s too late?? Is the Silver Surfer really that hard a pill to swallow??? Tune into Marvel Adventures: Hulk #13 to find out!

This book is definitely an all ages book, and when I say that I don’t mean it’s just for kids. Peter David has written an incredibly fun read that anybody from the oldest comics fanboy to the youngest starting collector would find enjoyable. The art team of Juan Santacruz and Raul Fernandez I found to be very reminiscent of Mark Bagley’s style. I felt each page was very well laid out and their introductions of some of the mummy heroes were brilliant! This art could definitely hold up in a more teen reader focused superhero book. All in all this was just a great break from the deeper stories going on in normal Marvel continuity. Don’t let the all ages rating dissuade you. Give the Marvel Adventures: Hulk a try. You won’t be sorry you did!

11 O'Clock Comics Episode 10

In the wake of Wizard World Chicago 2008, an experience filled with hilarity and heartbreak, we touch on the passing of Michael Turner, finally get rolling on Final Crisis #2 (all too briefly for my taste, but one can’t have everything…), Erik Larsen and Image Comics, the repurcussions of unconstructive criticism, Marvel1985, Mike Norton‘s Trinity work with Jerry Ordway, Simone Bianchi as the modern-day Alex Nino, Mark Millar and Old Man Logan, Walking Dead Volume 8, World War Z, scumbags who capitalize on the brilliance of George Romero, Astonishing X-Men #25, Warren Ellis, Avatar Comics, and much, much more! As usual, the Hotline is red-hot with ridiculous remarks! Google Cronic Dorome!
