Image solicits for September 2011
« on: Yesterday at 05:43 PM »

Since the other Image thread was turned into a "let's talk about nothing but the Rick Veitch 9-11 comic", here is a thread to talk about the other 40 or so comics Image is coming out with in September

PIGS #1
Written by NATE COSBY & BEN McCOOL art BRENO TEMURA cover JOCK
ISSUE ONE: HELLO, CRUEL WORLD A KGB sleeper cell has been in Cuba since 1962. And now they're coming to kill you. NATE COSBY (MARVEL), BEN McCOOL (CHOKER, MEMOIR) and hotshot newcomer artist BRENO TEMURA present PIGS, an ongoing series set to join Image's elite ranks. Terrorists have descended on America, assigned to destroy everything in their path...but why, and why now?

Sounded great when they announced it back at WonderCon, I'm definitely getting on board for this one....

'68: JUNGLE JIM
Written by MARK KIDWELL art NATE VAN DYKE & JAY FOTOS cover A NATE VAN DYKE cover B NAT JONES & JAY FOTOS
Vietnam, 1968: Behind enemy lines, a soldier stands alone. A one-man army...armored against the risen, hungry dead under burlap, bamboo and Army green. Armored against the living with a Bowie knife and a mobile arsenal. If you got left behind...he'll find you. If you're the enemy...you'll never see him coming. If you're a zombie...he'll kill you again. Sometimes, to slay monsters...you have to become one yourself. Jungle Jim is a stand-alone one-shot comic story set in the grim world of '68.

Anyone else out there loving the "Zombie in 'Nam"??

LOVESTRUCK OGN
Written by DENNIS HOPELESS art KEVIN MELLON cover ERIK JONES
It's a love story, but not like you think.  There's no boy meets girl or star-crossed soul mates. Love is a billion-dollar industry. Cupid's the megalomaniac CEO.Ê And Kali Monroe gets paid to break your heart. Love is all around us. These are the pricks who control it.
192 pages, $16.99, in stores on Sept. 21.

I'm a big fan of Hopeless/Mellon (anyone else remember Gearhead??).  I'll be all over this one!

hmmm Marz/sejic last witchblade issue, VERY curious whos taking over.

Gonna check out Near Death, Jay Faerber always worth a look. Interested to see his non-superhero work.

Dale Keown on Artifacts 13, awesome.

More Morning Glories, Skullkickers, Spawn, Savage Dragon and Godland is always a good thing.

After a huge august with Morning Glories TPB, Halcyon TPB and the Invincible Companion tearing up like 75% of my budget, this month is looking like nothing... to bad. maybe a Walking Dead HC is soon to come...

Hmm, Lovestruck, Green Wake vol 1, and Blue Estate vol 1 all look potentially interesting. Anyone have any insights into these titles?

Lovestruck is by Hopeless & Mellon , who did Gearhead.  if you're not familiar with it, here are links to where you can check it out on-line for free:

Issue #1: http://issuu.com/mellon/docs/gearheadone?mode=embed&viewMode=presentation&layout=http%3A%2F%2Fskin.issuu.com%2Fv%2Flight%2Flayout.xml&showFlipBtn=true

Issue 2: http://issuu.com/mellon/docs/gearheadtwo?mode=embed&viewMode=presentation&layout=http%3A%2F%2Fskin.issuu.com%2Fv%2Flight%2Flayout.xml&showFlipBtn=true

Issue 3: http://issuu.com/mellon/docs/gearheadthree?mode=embed&viewMode=presentation&layout=http%3A%2F%2Fskin.issuu.com%2Fv%2Flight%2Flayout.xml&showFlipBtn=true

Issue 4: http://issuu.com/mellon/docs/gearheadfour?mode=embed&viewMode=presentation&layout=http%3A%2F%2Fskin.issuu.com%2Fv%2Flight%2Flayout.xml&showFlipBtn=true

Check it out & see if the story/art appeals to you!

Green Wake: I read #1 & personally didn't care for it, but I know other people who love it.  Here's a preview, judge for yourself:

Blue Estate: I love this series, but I know other people who hate it.......just like anything, different strokes.  Here's a preview for you to check out:

Really?

Jay Ferber - crime book!
Haunt - Casey and Fox!
27: 2nd Set!

And that's not mentioned all the other good series that continue ....

Plenty here to spend your well earned dollars.

I've been reading Blue Estate and really enjoying it - both art and story.

The only one I've read was Blue Estate #1, which I thought was a bit of a mess. On second reading, it flowed a little better but based on that limited experience, I decided to skip issue #2. However, the cover to issue #1 is almost worth the price of admission. It's gorgeous.

One of the main things I didn't like about was the shifting roster of artists throughout the issue. I just didn't feel that served the story well.

It sounds like Bob has had a very different experience with Blue Estate so perhaps it's ultimately rewarding. Smiley

Here's where different tastes kick in.   I like the shifting artists for the different scenes.  It's one of the things that makes the book interesting/different to me.

I'd have to agree.  I didn't mind the changing artwork as much, but the whole thing kinda lurched around.  There was no flow to the writing or the artwork.  It felt like something written by someone who isn't a writer, and had a translated feel to it as well.

Green Wake #1 I didn't dislike but I had the feeling that it would be one of those series that builds up all these creepy, mysterious elements and then just doesn't pay off.  It's a very subjective thing, I know, but my instincts are usually pretty good, and my instincts told me that it wouldn't go anywhere.  If I heard a contrary opinion from someone who finished the series I would probably pick up the other issues.
