i was a HUGE he-man geek back in the 80's. then i got too many toys and the drive just evaporated. in any case, it was a pleasure to draw. the nostalgia brought back lots of good memories...

for this pic i wanted to do something classic and striking, so i decided to get inspiration from frazetta. the poses are from one of his princess of mars paintings, but the colors are all me (unfortunately!).

Did you go straight to colors from your pencils?

thanks andrew! yep. i just make sure my pencils are sharp and as clean as possible. i scan it and play with the levels to kick up the contrast. i clean it up some more using the dodge tool and eraser. i developed this style because i'm not very good with traditional inks. so i "ink" with pencil and photoshop.
