The FF death issue was a stunning comic all the way around. I just hope the person who is dead really IS dead in FF 588.

I was in the bubble & was not spoiled. YEAH score 1 for me & 0 for Marvel, mass media overexposure & internet spoiling anything in nano seconds after it announced.

I managed to read the issue spoiler free too.  I thought I had the death ruined by some website images, but I was wrong.

I say bravo and good on him!  He's got a unique brush in comics that deserves to be seen, and personally I think he's a pretty cool dude who a lot of my friends seem to like, so I can't be anything else but happy for him.

Greatest network for some of the old cartoons is Boomerang. My 3 yr old daughter now asks me to watch The Flintstones and Yogi Bear. She loves those shows now and has officially dropped Dora. I think the fact that some of the old shows had some story and a lot of running around really appeals to kids.

Thanks for another great show. During the TMNT talk I was hoping for a small shout out for the awesome artwork in the Drawing Board.

I was kinda waiting to hear Vince talk about the art of the Sword. I wanted to hear his opinion on it because the story carried me though a bit, but the art was just stiff and I couldn't get past it yet, but I do want to now after hearing that the ending pays off.

just got around to listening to the episode today, and thanks again Wood for the Matinee Idles shout-out, as always it is much appreciated.

loved the TMNT v.4 talk btw. It's such a shame that Laird never finished it since it was only 7-8 issues away from completion (2 of which are already written, drawn, and inked while the rest had been plotted out significantly). The hardcore TMNT fanbase were all rather averse to the book though, and i think that coupled with the soulless licensing side of the business all contributed to Laird just walking away. It's a shame because i feel if more people outside of the usual TMNT fanbase had actually read the book it probably could of had a much longer shelf life. It was easily one of the best science fiction comics of the last decade and the look and feel of the book was really unlike anything else out there at the time. Again, if Laird ever really wants to complete or start a new TMNT series he is free to do so but i just don't see it happening anytime soon. btw anyone who is interested you can read all of the unreleased issue #31 on Laird's blog

i have to say i haven't looked at a TMNT comic or anything TMNT related basically since Laird sold the property and it really has not been on my mind at all since then. I guess i just knew too much about the business side of Mirage up to that point, and the few positive things coming down the pipeline that got killed because of the sale and it just kind of drained me of my TMNT love for quite a while. I will say though after listening to this suddenly i got the urge to dig out some TMNT comics and remind myself of why i loved this damn property so much in the first place., so thank you!

Listen to the 'MATINEE IDLES' + 'THE CHEMICAL BOX' podcasts

Comics were definitely happier, breezier and more confident in their own strengths before Hollywood and the Internet turned the business of writing superhero stories into the production of low budget storyboards or, worse, into conformist, fruitless attempts to impress or entertain a small group of people who appear to hate comics and their creators. - Grant Morrison

I was trying to be careful and not have it spoiled, but I just HAAAAAAAD to peruse my Twitter feed that morning. Like an idiot. I knew I was flirting with disaster, but I'm kinda addicted to Twitter. What I didn't expect, however, was that I would have it spoiled for me by not one, but two...

Very excellent! That makes sense, and yet I don't know that I've seen it done elsewhere. I'm beginning to understand why Stan Sakai is always on the short list in fan favorite votes each year.

I was just going to add from memory what Stan said in an interview I read years ago, about the "tokage" (which I'm pretty sure is the translation of dinosaur in Japanese). He said because the world was populated by talking animals, it wouldn't make sense for there to be pet cats and dogs, so he had to come up with something to fill that role, so he decided on the lizard/dinosaur things, which kind of fill the role of both pets and pests in the world of Usagi. I tried to find where I had the interview, I'm pretty sure I printed of a copy from the net, but this was like over 10 years ago, so slim chance of me finding it.
This talk and me searching through my Usagi TPB has made want to get back into it. I was pretty into it for a good number of years, but the lack of an end in sight kind on made me stop buying it a while ago. Might be time to get back into it.
