Color theory questions
« on: 05:04 PM | Tuesday, April 12, 2011 »

Hey all. Does anybody know of some good online resources (or print material) for learning about color theory and (by extension) digital coloring. I've found some good stuff, but nothing that's much more than an overview. Cheers!

Don't know where you'll get much colour theory free online. Probably only as much as you've found yourself, like http://www.opentheshutter.com/colortheorypaper%201.pdf etc etc. Smiley

If you can spring a few bucks, I heartily recommend James Gurney's Colour & Light - . Anything online is going to be very brief.

You can learn a lot about color theory and digital coloring by reading up on the Gutter Zombie forums here ...  http://www.dave-co.com/gutterzombie/

Also the newest sidebar podcast is on Dave Stewart haven't listened to it yet but I'm sure it's full of good information.  I personally found the information in an older podcast featuring the CHRIS BRUNNER & RICO RENZI very helpful.

You might want to check out Color Image Scale by Shigenobu Kobayashi. It's out of print, and pricey on Amazon, but you can usually find a decently priced copy via Googling.

It approaches color from a psychology point of view, rather than the traditional color wheel approach. It's used heavily in consumer product design because of that. Great for when you're looking to evoke a mood, but not quite sure what the right palette would be.

Good call. You shouldn't be disappointed (unless you're very, very picky).  Tongue
