My 9x12 scanner finally crapped out so I'm looking to upgrade to an 11x17 model.  Any good recommendations?

I've been considering the Brother MFC J6510DW. 11x17 scanning and printing at a reasonable price. It was listed on amazon for $179.99 but it now seems to have gone up to $229. I'll wait and see if it drops down again because I've seen it at OfficeMax for $200.

I'm need to look into this scanner as well.  I was talking to Hardman at heroes con and he also suggested a brother's printer scanner.  I imagine it was the very same model mentioned above but I'm not positive.

i used to have a mustek usb a3 pro scanner.


i went through 2 of them. they're pretty cheap ($150), and simple to use. they're kinda fragile, my fist one lasted me about 3 years and the second conked out after 1 year. i think it was a faulty belt. weird because it always stayed in the same place, and not jarred or bumped. and wouldn't you know it, the warranty just ended the month before.

anyhoo, i'd recommend them if you're on a budget. if you're more gentle with your electronics, or more tech savvy, you might have a better experience than i did.

i read that mike norton uses the brother mfc6490cw. he says he's very happy with it. you can get a manufacturer refurb for less than $180 and comes with a 2 year warranty.



remember, buy the 6490 and not the 5490. i made that bone-headed mistake and had to return the goddam 5490. i was out 52 bucks for shipping.

now I NEED a new scanner. I have a regular scanner and have to scan my pages in segments and put them together in photoshop it sucks but I'm guessing I'll be upgrading right after summmit city this year!

Just bought it today. Its on sale this week at Office Max for $179 (plus I had a $15 off coupon). I've only messed around with it for a little while since I had to work but it seems awesome so for. Heavy as fuck though.

yeah i actually work at office max and it hits 199. every other week. im waiting for it to go down as well.

does amazon do sales tax? where would be better to buy it from?

No tax with amazon (unless you live in Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, or Washington). Plus they have a better return policy, so get it from there if its cheaper.
