In my search for knowledge...
« on: 01:04 AM | Friday, April 15, 2011 »

I've found http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/

Anybody try any of these? Looks like there's some amazing stuff on a wide variety of artistic mediums (traditional, digital, CG, tattooing...).

Comic specific subjects include penciling, inking, coloring, painting, layouts, etc from the likes of David Finch and Phil Noto. I've already checked out the Phil Noto one. VERY interesting.

Me thinks this site could hurt my wallet  Drool

yeah, their products are very interesting (useful too), but way to rich for my blood. i want to attend the school they set up, or even the conferences. the videos i've seen make it look like a haven for artists and art students, but i don't have the time or money. i definitely would if i could, though. one year the conference was in san francisco, and MAN did i want to go so bad.

I think the one I'd be interested in is penciling the human body taught by Finch. I think it would be very handy.  Yes

I love stuff like this.  I wish I had more time and money to devote to improving myself.

I love the Gnomon stuff, plus I'm lucky in that I can usually get my boss to pay for it ;-)

I tend to prefer the ones that cover workflow and technical approaches, over the more how-to-draw stuff. A lot of drawing is practice, practice, practice, which unfortunately you can't get from a DVD :-)

They have one on coloring (link below) that spends a good amount discussing setting up the file, working with aliased friskets, color blocking, GSR, etc. While there's a lot of basic coloring techniques in there, its real value for me was more how he was doing it, rather than what he was doing. If that makes any sense.

All the stuff from Gnomon is gold, as far as I can tell. Have a few of them already. Here's more ways to spend your hard earned money on instructional stuff Tongue-

Not sure I understand. What's wrong with zipped files?
