I really enjoyed Thor. One down, two to go...
No matter what we get in next month's Green Lantern movie, it will end up being better than what we almost ended up with:

Green Lantern (Robert Smigel Draft)
June 20, 2006 First Draft by Robert Smigel.
Inspired by Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn 1 & 2.
Synopsis: A comedic take on Green Lantern with a slovenly, big box furniture store employee named Jud Plato receiving the ring and becoming a Guardian of the Galaxy.
Source: Scanned – Pages: 132 – Size: 3.5 MB
Back in 2006, Warner Bros was considering casting Jack Black as the lead in a “Green Lantern” film, which was planned as a comedy written by Robert Smigel (“SNL”). The idea was eventually scrapped and Ryan Reynolds was brought on for a more serious take. The comedic version would have had Black playing a slovenly, big box furniture store employee named Jud Plato, instead of test pilot Hal Jordan.
I love Robert Smigel but this could have been what the non comic fan would have been introduced to as a Green Lantern. Whew!

Don't count your lanterns before they're charged. Ryan Reynolds is no garrauntee that this movie will be a great introduction for a non comic fan.

Who cares? All I want is a good movie. Iron Man was a cultural thunderstorm but it's not like people raced out to by the comics.

I'm not sure anyone does any more, really. I was just responding to Tiki's comment about the original screenplay with Jack Black as Green Lantern being a bad intro to Green Lantern for non comic fans. My comment was meant to imply Ryan Reynolds may not be much better. You might want to read the original comment before making comments like "who cares". You kinda missed the point of the thread.
Edit: That may come off as mean or angry- it was intended as neither. I was just trying to point out a misinterpretation.

Blake Lively is so hot, I don't think I'll care too much if the movie's bad.

This script sounds like it belongs to the Superman crazy script with a spider or something...I dunno. I did see some pictures of the suit they were going to use for Superman, that was actually kinda cool.
IMO, I think Green Lantern will be at least fun to see.

That script does indeed sound terrible. I want these comic movies to at least stay quasi related to the books and characters. And even if we aren't seeing spikes in sales this makes a huge difference in getting kids excited about super heroes. My kids have Iron Man and Batman backpacks. We want to expose them (and hopefully show them how cool) Green Lantern, Captain America and everyone else can be.
Heck, this morning alone a little boy came up to me talking about how awesome the "hammer guy" was at the movies. He thought his name was "Tron" but we fixed that and then he told me about smashing a glass in the store.

First let's all see Green Lantern movie before we judge. Going by the trailer is nothing until we see the finish product.

True. I took my kids to see Thor this weekend (and they loved it), and we saw the trailer for Green Lantern and Captain America. They are excited about Green Lantern now, but have no interest in Captain America. In fact, my oldest son's only response to the Captain America trailer was, "But Captain America doesn't use a gun." So we shouldn't really judge based on the trailers, but the intention of the trailer is to get you to want to see the film. There are some things you can get from a trailer. For instance, The CGI of Reynolds in costume looks a little strange at points, as though he's too thin. Based on some of the lines in the trailer it seems that we may be seeing the character Reynolds frequently plays in his films and that the subtitle of the film might be Two Guys, a Girl and a GL Ring.
That's the negatives. The positives presented in the trailer are that it looks like it might stay pretty true to the comic version. We might get a galaxy spanning epic with lots of cool cameos, supporting characters and locations. It stands a good chance of being the movie to see this summer and I'm not sure how Captain America is going to compete.

I can't see Ryan Reynolds as Hal and I really don't like the costume but I'm hoping it'll be good.

I'm not writing GL off totally. I will see it, because I'm still game to see most major comic blockbusters. However, if a trailer is designed in hopes to get people excited to see a movie, then the opposite also then has to be a possibility.

Ehhh...I'm not going to see it... but that's ok, right? We don't lose our comic fan licence if we don't see every superhero movie, do we?

Not at all. I'm constantly skipping movies I would have historically seen in the theater thanks to having a badass tv at home, and blu-ray. But GL, even with my misgivings, is still intriguing enough for me to go check it out.
