just a blank page with freaky chanting, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick

Apparently, there was more to the site than it appeared. the chanting contained a code and the code revealed... Bane!

Quote
This morning, the movie's official site was revealed (via JoBlo) ... if you call an all-black homepage with some weird chanting an official site. But then some crafty online sleuths discovered a coded message within the chanting, which suggested a Twitter hashtag, #TheFireRises. Tweeting that caused an image to show itself on the site, and thanks to more enterprising web folks, we now know it's a photo of Tom Hardy decked out as Bane, the sequel's principal villain.

Hopefully, the image above gets bat-fans excited. Smiley

At the end of that article, the writer asked, "But, seriously, who isn't excited about The Dark Knight Rises?"

I have to confess: I'm not excited. Don't get me wrong, I plan to see it and I hope it's good but I'm not a Bane fan and I've found Nolan's Batman films entertaining but overrated. They're good movies but they don't get me psyched and they clearly have that effect on many comics fans. For me, something's missing.

Anyway, I won't rain on the parade any more than I already have... sorry about that. Smiley

inverse for me, The Nolan Batman films are pretty much the only comic book movies that get me psyched at all. I can see they aren't perfect but i still love them.

Listen to the 'MATINEE IDLES' + 'THE CHEMICAL BOX' podcasts

Comics were definitely happier, breezier and more confident in their own strengths before Hollywood and the Internet turned the business of writing superhero stories into the production of low budget storyboards or, worse, into conformist, fruitless attempts to impress or entertain a small group of people who appear to hate comics and their creators. - Grant Morrison

I think this Bane will be nothing like the comics. I expect it to be a resident of Gotham who goes vigilante. Maybe something along the lines of Sgt. Cort in that Prey storyline. I can't tell anything from this picture. I just know to expect something different with Nolan.

It feels like Nolan finds a aspect of the comic character that he likes or wants to use and then rebuilds the character around this. I could see nolan really focusing on the intelligence/strategist element of bane rather than just the strength/venom
