Give me a few hours with her and I'll make her see the light.

Some scented candles, a fine wine, a few romantic "mis-understandings" and bam!  Harry Potter comic.

LOL!

Hey, Doug, is that a flying cat/pop tart in your avatar?

I've been quiet for the past week because I've had family visiting, so I completely missed this discussion. I've wondered about the lack of comics tie-ins to a couple of the huge movie franchises too (Harry Potter, PotC, *shudder* Twilight), and I really think that Marvel and Disney have made a big mistake in not doing a serious PotC comics title yet, regardless of creative teams. I would add more, but Steve and Jim already put everything I had to say much more eloquently than I could One Wave

And that's where Stephanie Meyers is a umm... er... marketing genius.  There is a Twighlight graphic novel that adapts the first book.  I'm not going to comment on the quality of the series but she recognizes there is a market for the product and fills it.

I don't see the Marvel/Disney with PotC the same as Warners with Harry Potter. One difference is that Disney OWNS and CREATED PotC. It was a ride for the longest time. Them not exploiting it is on Disney and Marvel in that regards (please note that they can't really sell a great PotC game either before this Lego one). But with Harry Potter with Warners, they don't own that at all. They made the films, they have rights to that. But to the property its all J.K. and if she doesn't want to do it then it's not getting done. This woman is richer than the Queen, it's not like Warners can make her do anything. There is probably some hoops and hurdles with the publishers also. I doubt let's say Scholastic would just say give up that part of the business in the states. Maybe she just doesn't want to do it. Maybe it has nothing to with her views on comics at all. We have no right to fault her for something she doesn't want to do with her property. It's not on her to "save" comics because we think it can. We also shouldn't fault Warners and DC for something they literally have ZERO control over. Especially with the films done. To tell the truth they probably would want her to write more books so they could extend the franchise longer because real talk this whole Superhero thing is a game as the tentpole.
