Would people who dislike Constantine coming to DC be as upset if say Aquaman or Firestorm were reimagined and published as a Vertigo title?

The Tiki Freaky Tiki

a little late to this part of the conversation, but I would love a Vertigo treatment for Aquaman. It worked beautifully for Animal Man & Doom Patrol.

This just occurred to me:

The crux of my problem with Constantine being absorbed into the DCU is that it threatens that character's running streak of quality.
True. Imagine if Constantine's DCU personal gains the popularity of say... Deadpool. Good for business, bad for integrity

Holy shit, David, those are some great articles right there. Thanks for sharing the links, Jacobi. I just read through both parts, and it really made me want to revisit some of my favorite Hellblazer runs (and pick up those I  still havent read).

Thanks so much for checking it out (and for the stamina to get through it all-- once I started getting so many interviews, and as I wanted to spend some time with every era of the title, it become more of a novella than an article).

Like all fan press, though, my reward was that I got the opportunity to have exchanges with so many creators I respect.  Mostly through email, but a few were up for phone interviews, like Berger, Azzarello (who was actually very pleasant despite his reputation to the contrary), Carey (who was kind enough to do the call a SECOND time as my equipment failed the first time around, what a gentleman), and Rachel Pollack.

I also- and here again is why I call myself a writer doing fan press rather than a capital-J Journalist, because I would imagine this would be unprofessional, but then I'm not one- at the end of the call with Berger, I had the chance to just take a moment to thank her for her work.  The books that she edited, and the Vertigo line itself when it launched, were some of the only comics that kept me reading through my college years, and I just appreciated, as we do at conventions, getting the chance to thank her for the very big role she has played in making a lot of my favorite comics works exist.

Guys,

Peter Milligan, the current writer of Hellblazer, confirmed that John Constantine is returning to the DCU but it will NOT impact the current Hellblazer series. In other words, it seems that the new DC is ok with characters appearing in both DC and Vertigo line of books.

Real talk-- no one actually panicked.  Some of us just gave a damn about a book we care about, and speculated that- based on some context with Swamp Thing- there might be some bad news ahead.  And some interesting conversation came out of it.  And at the end of the day it all came out of people giving a sh*t in the first place.

No harm in that, right?

As for the news.  Great.  Again, I always would rather have my book to read than get to say 'I told you so'.  This is one I am glad to be wrong on.

(And, actually, a DCU Constantine throwback, like Black Lantern Swamp Thing, is still a little lame, but as long as there are both, I will take that pyrrhic victory)

PS- And if there are reports of Didio getting an envelope full of poopy baby diapers in the mail on Monday-- sent before this news broke-- I don't know anything about it  Whistle

This.

Except that I'm still annoyed that one of my favorite authors writing one of my favorite characters was cancelled, but I guess  that's for another thread.

That was 10 pages FULL of reading for me to do!  I was going to post that it is possible the DC version of Constantine could help Vertigo sales.  I'm not sure how much or ho wlong he'll be in the DCU, but they could re-release the first few volumes in a nice new trade dress and put big ads on the last page of comics "Check out Constantine's adventures in his OWN series!"  Isn't the saying there is no such thing as bad publicity?  Maybe all this hubbub will be good for his sales numbers of floppies and trades.

does any one else just feel like they made this announcement for only 2 reasons:
1.) integrate swampy and constantine back into the dcu
and 2.) to put that stupid green lantern banner on the vertigo books?
