That is right!
I did my best to put the love of comics in my kids as early as possible. I was successful with my son, whose favorite character is Deadpool, which I had nothing to do with, but I feel like years of feeding him X-Men and Spiderman and Fantastic Four led him in that direction. He also regularly dips into my collection of Locke & Key, Chew, The Umbrella Academy, you name it. He's 19 and I think it's mission accomplished with him.
I wasn't that successful with my daughter. For a while the Minx line was working well and she was interested, but once that folded, there wasn't enough out there to hold her interest. She clearly was not into super heroes (though she liked SpiderGirl for a while) and I was not knowledgeable about Manga enough to know which way to guide her.
Now that she's a mid-point teen-ager, maybe I can dangle some Persepolis in front of her and see if she takes it.
