http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2011/06/16/brad-meltzer-on-seeing-his-work-become-his-father’s-prized-possesion/

Brad Meltzer is the New York Times bestselling author of many titles including IDENTITY CRISIS and numerous novels including The Book of Fate, The Tenth Justice, Dead Even, The First Counsel, The Millionaires, The Zero Game, Book of Lies and The Inner Circle:

“My father had two things on his wall at home: One was the cover of one of my novels. The other was a framed page from the dedication of my very first comic book work: Green Arrow - The Archer’s Quest. The dedication reads:

For my Dad,
who bought me comics all those years,
Even when he would’ve rather been buying baseballs.

For me, I loved that that became a prized possession.”

– Brad Meltzer

This was a great thing to wake up and read this morning!  Thumbs Up

That is right!

I did my best to put the love of comics in my kids as early as possible. I was successful with my son, whose favorite character is Deadpool, which I had nothing to do with, but I feel like years of feeding him X-Men and Spiderman and Fantastic  Four led him in that direction.  He also regularly dips into my collection of Locke & Key, Chew, The Umbrella Academy, you name it.  He's 19 and I think it's mission accomplished with him.

I wasn't that successful with my daughter. For a while the Minx line was working well and she was interested, but once that folded, there wasn't enough out there to hold her interest. She clearly was not into super heroes (though she liked SpiderGirl for a while) and I was not  knowledgeable about Manga enough to know which way to guide her.

Now that she's a mid-point teen-ager, maybe I can dangle some Persepolis in front of her and see if she takes it.  Cheesy

I have 3 kids.  HeartsMy 13yr old boy gives me looks like I have a Perter Pan syndrome, and maybe I do. My 7 year old girl likes comics like the Oz series and she's a daddy's girl so she indulges me.  Rock Hornsand my 3yr old loves it. He runs around the house with his Hulk hands smashing everything in sight and always ask for action figures when we go to the comic shop. Hoping to hook the 13yr old w/ a trip to the Texas comiccon this coming weekend, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
