Wal-Mart's Captain America store (with Marvel Digital link)
« on: 07:06 AM | Friday, June 17, 2011 »

Wal-Mart's website has a good-sized Marvel/Cap/Avengers/Thor/Iron Man presence:

http://see.walmart.com/marvel/captainamerica/

I was disappointed to see that the Books link just goes to some mass market paperbacks (I was hoping WallyWorld was carrying some Marvel trades), but there's a link to the Marvel DCU digital comics on there, so that's a plus.

Step by step, comic properties are getting ingrained into the mainstream (I just wish it was more of the comics themselves, but that will come).

Good find and thanks for sharing.  I'm with you, even if this isn't perfect, this is a sequence of baby steps and it's all positive news.

Thanks.

I'm so tired about rampant negativity and faux elitism that I need to point out the efforts to try and broaden the appeal of comics, y'know?

Wal-Mart sells a ton of superhero clothing and merchandise.  Some joint advertising between them and Marvel is a great idea.

Great stuff. I started the Green Lantern movie ad thread because I thought these new initiatives are an excellent start to get kids to read these books. More kids visiting shops will keep the industry alive. Keep it coming Marvel and DC!

I call BULLSHIT!

What the hell is wrong with them? Why don't they have frontpage banner ads for Comixology and the Marvel Digital site? I mean, the link Steve refered to is hopeless. If those are the sort of steps they are willing to take, why the hell bother? We might as well just give up on comics all-together, and start reading teenage vampire novels instead of this bullshit. The industry is DYING folks, and all you guys are doing is praising some spineless half-assed effort to promote the worst titles out there, hidden away at the bottom of the barrell. If Walmart aren't willing to put up actual physical banners on their storefronts, advertising the newest hardcover collection of sketches from the Golden Age masters, WHAT THE FUCK DOES IT EVEN MATTER ANYWAY?

This looks like the kind of initiative we need more of. Good find Steve.
