Marvel Spoils "Death of Spider-Man" in USAToday.....
« on: Today at 05:26 PM »

I stopped reading all Ultimate comics a while back, but was really curious about the "Death of Spider-Man" and what necessitated the story having to be spread out over what seems like 20 or so comics for the past several months.

Today, before the poly-bagged issue even hits the stands, Marvel provided the actual "death scene" to USA Today which they proceeded to publish.

I had no problem reading it since I don't read the Ultimate books and Marvel saved me from having to wonder about how the story ended.  I might have actually broke down & got the comic tomorrow, now I don't have to.  Thanks for saving me $3.99, Marvel!

Who says they are heartless money grubbers?  Here they are saving me $$!!

That sucks for people who might have seen that by mistake, but I think we as a comic reading community focus to much on the outcome, and not enough on the journey. If all that matters is how a story ends, or bulleted plot points, I would just read Wikipedia.

The journey (for the Ultimate Universe) ceased to matter for me after that tidal wave wiped out Manhattan, killing 10's of thousands of people and the aftermath/effects of it was barely mentioned again.

Given the profound impact the 9/11 terrorist attacks had on the real-world NYC, I find it hard to get into the stories after the Ultimate Universe had a terrorist attack as severe with a huge loss of life, and little indication of any kind of profound lingering effect.   That's just a personal opinion.

That said, I would have gotten USM #160 just to see how the death scene played out, but now I don't have to.
