I loved Final Crisis but I think I need to level up my comics knowledge a little bit and possibly do some more research so I can better appreciate it.
I thought it was pretty good the first time around. Then after I read it with RIP I appreciated it quite a bit more. Which isn't what you want to do when writing a huge event I guess, but the pay off still was epic-ially sweet.

Yeah ideally you'd want your event to be accessible to new readers but I like that (at least, for me) it will be more rewarding with future readings. But even with my limited DC knowledge, I had a ton of fun with it. The balls on Morrison to do the stuff that he did, gotta love it!

First - Contest of Champions (does that really count though?)
Favorite - That's a little harder since I'm burnt on events and it's always tempting to list the most recently read since it's best remembered. I think I have to go with Crisis on Infinite Earths. It was a blast to read, dramatically altered the DC landscape for a long time and I measure all other events against it.

My first event was probably Evolutionary Wars. Favorite? Hmmm ... does the Great Darkness Saga count?

For me, Crisis has one big giant flaw that prevents it from being my favorite: Hal Jordan's role in the story.

My first event, (and comics) was the "Reign of the Supermen"! I still remember being 8 years old and once a week my Dad would come home from work and hand me the next issue. I loved every part of that event... 4 supermen, Guy Gardner (who I thought was a real bad ass at the time), the mystery, I couldn't believe it when we found out that the cyborg superman was the villain!! I haven't read it since, I'm afraid by doing so, it'll ruin the nostalgia!
My favorite, like many of you said, is still the Infinity Gauntlet... or maybe AOA.... I can't decide!!

First = Secret Wars - I still love these books. The scene with Hulk holding the mountain over everyone was great.
Favorite = really tough, since there are a lot of good ones. I used to love all the Marvel Annual crossovers, but I will probably have to go with the Onslaught Saga - it was a pretty epic story that put the X-men front and center in the Marvel U. A lot of questions were answered in that story also.
DC Favorite = Identity Crisis - as a guy who doesn't read a lot of DC, I was pretty blown away by how far they went with their traditional characters in these books. Bravo.

Infinity Gauntlet was my first. It's also my favorite but Crisis on Infinite Earths is a very close second. The Thanos Quest series (which was mentioned) and Silver Surfer stories that led up to the event were also great.

My first were "The Death/Reign of Superman" and "Knightfall", which were happening (I believe) around the same time.I ate up every comic I could get my hands on that had anything to do with these story lines.
My favorite would have to be Underworld Unleashed. I have to admit I haven't read it in about ten years so I may need to re-look at that choice.

My first The Death/Reign of Superman. I remember my dad buying these for me because he thought it was impossible that they would kill Superman (so he kind of wanted to see how they did it). I was really young and couldn't tell you what was going on, but I remember it was really cool seeing the different Superman flying around.
My favorite is a tie between Sinestro Corps War and House of M. House of M got me back into comics after years away.

My First was Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars. So many great images, lots of crazy fun, and hey it was all self contained in 12 issues of Awesomeness. DC basically store the continuity idea (regular titles jumping forward w/o explination while the even goes on in between the pre-jump and post-jump issues) with 1 Year Later/52, but we'll forgive them for that.
I had just started reading comics for a year or so, and then suddenly all of my favorite characters got vanished at the end of an issue, with the same weird Teleporter thing...
My Favorite? Well you can tell by my gushing that Secret Wars is still up there, for the sheer fun of it. But right on its heels came Crisis, which was less fun, more massive and way more impactful.. (though Secret Wars did have its effects too!) those were two back to back awesome years.
Recently the only one that really excited me was Civil War. I loved the concept, and if you pick your stories had good execution, but look at the whole scope of the publication tie ins and it collapses under its own weight...

First: Batman: Knightfall & Marvel Vs. DC When I was 12 years old the Marvel vs. DC event was absolutely the coolest thing I had ever seen. My mind could barely contain all the greatness. My original copy is beat all to hell because I brought it everywhere and had to have read it 100 times.
Favorite: 52 LOVED a big event without the big guys and those trades with the extra scripts/content at the end of each issue made the reading experience all the more pleasurable.
