RASL Pocket Book One vs. RASL Vol1 & Vol. 2
« on: 03:05 AM | Tuesday, May 17, 2011 »

Hey folks, I'm looking at buying some RASL and am trying to decide whether I should buy the smaller sized but cheaper Pocket Book which seems to be the collection of the larger sized Vo.l 1 and Vol. 2.
So, do the Volumes have material which isn't in the pocket book, or does the work need to be read at a larger size, or do you think it doesn't really matter and just go with the cheapest? ($16.40 for the pocketbook collection vs. $25.20 for the 2 volumes.)
I'm open to whichever, so make a case.

This doesn't answer your question exactly, but here's the case I would make: Jeff Smith is, without exaggerating, one of the premier cartoonists of our time. The confidence he has in his near-perfect brush strokes takes many a year to achieve, and it's a wonder to behold.

So, I would STRONGLY recommend you get it as big as you can get it. Study the master up close.  Hearts

Well if you don't have any OCD tendencies, then grab the pocket book and then switch to trades so you get them faster. Save a few dollars.

But the trades are pretty cool in there oversizness. Either way you cannot lose.

I'm a pretty big geek of art and nice books, so I think the oversized RASL's are great fun and beautiful books.  I honestly didn't even know they were doing pocket volumes of this.

I have to agree with this. I think its a blessing they make these trades over sized, take advantage and buy the big trades it is more than worth it.

While the story is good enough to stand on its own, the big art just pushes RASL over the top and makes it one of THE best books on the stands.

get the book in the larger format.  those oversized trades are gorgeous and totally worth the extra money.  there's no different in material included, but i do believe the oversized editions are only being printed once.  but if you're really just not sure if you'd like it, get the pocket book, and if you do like it you can always double dip and then use the pocket book as a gift once you have the larger editions.

Actually, I'm in Australia, so no thanks, but it sounds like Travis might consider it.

Well, the jury seems to be in on the Vol. 1 & 2. I guess we love our art here on this forum.
Thanks for your responses, I appreciate it.

I think these boards are pretty heavy on art appreciators.  And personally Jeff Smith are in paticular...well I want that as big as I can get it.
